  • Do I think Maduro is a great guy? No, of course not. Does that mean I think the US action in Venezuela is justified? Definitely not. This isn’t about Maduro, it’s about the US going into another country kidnapping someone just because he’s in the way of their interests.

What if the next time it’s someone you don’t think is an arsehole? Who decides how much of an arsehole someone needs to be for the US to kidnap that person and for you to be ok with that?

  • “You exchange real money at a booth, and in return you get tokens or fake currency that are only usable inside that ecosystem.”

To me that sounds like Reddit’s award system.

    “Boosting posts or creators (opt-in)”

I hate this idea. I don’t want algorithms nor paid boosting to change the sorting of content. That’s one of the reasons I left Reddit.

Instead of introducing a complex internal currency or paid boosting, Fediverse instances could adopt a simple, transparent system inspired by Signal’s (the messenger) supporter badges.

Users voluntarily donate to their instance (one-time or recurring). In return, their profile gets a small, instance specific badge visible next to their avatar.

Badges are purely visual, they don’t have any influence on post visibility or sorting.

    Edit:

I forgot to mention, that the badges are only visible for a certain time, like a month or so

    edit end

I’m not saying, that this is the best solution, but to me this solution is fair, doesn’t interfere with the core values of the fediverse and still raises awareness of the importance of financial support.

  • “…when he says something matters, it does, and we will take the necessary action with the full weight of the Department of War”

To me that somehow sounds as if they said “looking at you Greenland”.

  • I’m diagnosed with autism and ADD. My son (adult) is diagnosed with ADD.

We go for walks regularly and just talk. About what’s going on in our lives and what is on our minds. It might be politics or private stuff.

Walking somehow makes it easier to talk as you’re busy without being overly distracted. No need to look at a face as you need to watch where you’re going.

This helped us a lot understanding each other.

  • Too bad, friend 1 to friend 7 live there, but you don’t.

  • My first thought was that rising poverty, which disproportionately affects African-American communities, plays a major role. Poverty often leads to poor diets, which in turn worsen underlying health conditions. Add the stress of working multiple jobs (because you can’t afford to have only one) and you have your perfect recipe for declining health.

  • Ok, I’ll make it short: when people react like this, when their needs aren’t met, then run and don’t look back.

  • -5%

Why? Legacy code and the inability of AI to work with anything that is not standard. I spend more time finding errors in the code generated than I would’ve needed to write it myself.

And don’t get me started on inefficiency like nested loops which are fairly easy to avoid, but AI seems to just love them.

    AI simply sucks.

  • That’s easy: start with making abortion illegal. Proceed with making contraception illegal.

  • 11 homes?

  • The comment section has some disturbing views.

  • I also don’t know anything about this movie, just what is shown: Tom Cruise? Instantly not interested, no matter how much I adore the style.

  • “The West?" At least in Germany, it’s a bit different.

If someone is drowning and you do nothing, you are indeed legally liable under § 323c StGB (unterlassene Hilfeleistung), unless you genuinely cannot help (e.g., you can’t swim or would endanger yourself). Simply walking away is not a safe strategy in such a situation.

And if you try to help, but the person dies or gets injured, you are not automatically liable. German law protects good-faith rescuers: you can only be held responsible if you act with gross negligence. That’s why, in Germany, we’re taught from school onward that it’s always okay to help, you won’t be punished for trying.

So, in Germany, the safest move is not to walk away, but to act reasonably and in good faith.

  • Ok, let’s embrace visionary thinking and work on oligarchs going extinct.

  • It all comes back.

  • Yes, I’m fear stricken by the Costco membership.

  • What do I own today? I live in a rented flat, my car is leased, even the movies I watch are “rented”.

Affordability is in crisis ALTHOUGH WE DON’T OWN ANYTHING.

So tell me more about how not owning anything will be the solution.
