  • I don't mind auto saving in places that keep versioning. But by default for LibreOffice does sound as dangerous as not having it.

  • Highway signage was critical. If you were traveling, you could tell which states sucked by them not having any signs pointing you back to the highway.

  • Firefox is open source last I checked. On Android it runs its own engine and everything. It may not be on FDroid, but that doesn't mean it's not open source.

  • I switched to Antenna pod a few month ago. It is a very solid podcast client with 2 exceptions. One is a bug that means hitting the play button on notifications only works half the time, and the other is Android Auto not allowing you to just pickup where you left off, you have to go into your queue and find the thing you were last listening to every time. Neither are a deal breaker, but both are quite annoying.

I really should sit down and see if I can help with the code, but I have zero Android programming experience. I would hope that auto play on Android Auto connect would be rather simple, but I have no clue at this point.

  • I've always felt that public money should require public code. It makes total sense, unless you are a politician who wants to give favors and earn kickbacks.

  • I don't gave a lot of use of it in my personal life, but I did switch from LibreOffice over to OnlyOffice and have been happy with it. The interface feels relatively modern and logically laid out. My spreadsheets tend to be basic tracking sheets and I haven't made a written document file in ages, but for my modest needs, OnlyOffice is a clear winner.

  • Plausable sounding trash, specifically. More plausable than what extremely low paid humans can put out.

  • True, Lexus is a Toyota brand, and at least historically shared a lot of parts with Toyota cars, so maintenance wasn't always crazy. In the case of Audi, they might be quite reliable, but I know repairs/maintenance, when needed, is very expensive.

  • On Windows, the EU Browser Selection system basically meant, during setup, you would be asked which browser you wanted. Internet Explorer would be hidden, and whatever you selected would be installed and set to default. I guess for non-techy users, they might not know what the difference between Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and whatever else was in the list. But its not like they couldn't go to the store and grab another one if they weren't happy.

  • The trick is, luxury cars drop in value insanely fast. A 2 year old Audi is often about the same price as a new Honda. The problem these people don't account for is maintenance costs. They think they are getting a deal, then they are getting dragged down by an unreliable vehicle that they can't afford to fix.

  • For a new car? $25k is a pretty low price, at least in the US. My car was $24k new 10 years ago. It wasn't particularly special then.

  • Wow, that's just waiting to get copyright and trademarked out if existence. It is one thing to make something look and feel like Windows, it is another to make it an exact visual copy and call it Windows.

  • If I was running business workstations on Linux, I'd probably prefer Flatpak over distro specific package managers most of the time.

  • Thanks for the recommendation, unfortunately it seems that one is no longer maintained either.

  • Hopefully they get to Simple Launcher soon. I switched to that because Nova Launcher seemed to he dead and I couldn't find a better open source alternative. I certainly will take suggestions if someone knows something better on fdroid.

  • That is specifically not true of Apple. They don't make drivers for Linux, and often change components which means there are several Apple devices that are really hard to run Linux on. The touchbar MacBooks are a nightmare for Linux, and the ARM Macs are slowly getting support, but it is sub par last I looked.

  • There is a place for using LLMs to fluff up text or help with translation, but you shouldn't by copy/pasting blindly, or just scripting it out 100%.

The true failure here is Amazon, who takes no responsibility for what they sell. They let anyone anyone create a product listing with no oversight.

  • They do have an Asset Library currently, but it is all free, thus not a store.

  • Thanks, that helps. I shared this with the mspgeek.org community to see if anyone else is seeing it.
