  • Mega trucks ans SUVs are what sells, I guess.

Unfortunately, people buy what they are told to buy through advertising and marketing. The demand for sports cars didn't dry up because people lost interest, but because better margins were found in large vehicles (and since emissions requirements were easier to hit for large vehicles than small powerful ones).

If the auto industry decided small cars were more profitable, the entire marketing machine would start touting the benefits of small cars, and in a few years, people would be claiming they always loved small cars and are so glad they are back so they can replace their monster trucks with tiny hatches.

  • Finally, I can throw away my red/blue glasses and play Rad Racer for the NES the way it was meant to be played.

  • One of the fun things that self hosted LLMs let you do (the big tech ones might too), is that you can edit its answer. Then, ask it to justify that answer. It will try its best, because, as you said, it its entire state of mind is on the page.

  • The problem (or safety) of LLMs is that they don't learn from that mistake. The first time someone says "What's this Windows folder doing taking up all this space?" and acts on it, they wont make that mistake again. LLM? It'll keep making the same mistake over and over again.

  • /me searches a problem, finally finding someone asking the exact question I have. Page: Can't you idiots search for anything, 2 seconds searching would have found the answer.

  • Thanks for the tip of checking about:config. You can specify an external server, it is also in the about:config. browser.ml.chat.provider. I'm not sure it's a feature I will ever use, but I tested it with my local Open WebUI and it seemed to work.

  • How nice of them to have easy options for paid third party services, and hide the local options under about:config where I'd have no idea it even exists without a kind stranger letting me know.

  • They've also put it into the right click menu. And I think they integrated into the "click and hold link preview" feature they just added. And, annoyingly, with all this added AI, they made no provisions for locally hosted AI.

They also added AI translation in addition to their old translation system for webpages. I think the old one just used Google Translate, so the AI translation is a privacy win because it is done locally, but I may be wrong on how it used to work.

  • More like the other way around. The INDX was announce a while back. This is the first we are hearing about the CoreOne with it, but it really felt designed for it, there is a bar perfectly in place to work for the INDX.

  • I made a kick ass punisher Windows XP theme way back. But thay was when the movie came out and I just thought the black and white theme and skull start button looked cool.

  • I've always felt like the whole age verification thing was simply a failure of the OS. Yes, kids could potentially setup their own device, but most likely it is being setup by a parent. The parent should be able to create a the admin account, then an account for the child flag as a child account. The browser and any apps could then read that flag and act appropriately.

It seems like a simple solution that would be rather easy to implement for any multi-user OS. For single user OSs like Android and iOS, they have user accounts to fall back on that can work exactly the same.

This puts the control in the parents hands, and responsibility too.

  • Wasabi is a very affordable destination for backups. And it has the advantage of not being one of the big three.

  • I'm glad they are offering a bigger option. The CORE One is the same build plate size as the MK3&4. It's got some extra z height, but that's it. I'm enjoying my CORE One, but the limitation on bed size is a little frustrating, especially now that some of their biggest competitors are offering much larger build plates at similar prices.

  • Your right, that's not mentioned here, but that is pretty much their only legal tool to enforce this request. If I were the server in question, I'd drop the Minecraft branding off my server name real fast.

  • The biggest issue here is the server using the trademark "Minecraft". This feels like a threat to take actions for using that name if they don't align with what Microsoft wants. Which is reasonable, the server calls itself "MinecraftOnline". Microsoft does have a reasonable right to put a stop to that usage if it reflects badly on their branding.

Once the server stops using their branding, then Microsoft loses a lot of it's teeth, especially outside of the game itself (like on discord). Even in the game, if it is java edition and requires a direct IP connection Microsoft has very little ground to stand on, but they could kick them off Realms, if they are present.

That's one thing I miss about old games. Anyone could run a game server, and you could always directly connect to them even if they weren't listed on the server list, or gamespy was down.

  • I don't know if this is the case, but I've found that often Windows commands see the space as optional. It's weird, but generally works.

  • That's a great point. Good stage setting for custom emoji and possibly a local GIF picker.

  • Always nice to have options.

FYI, on Windows and KDE (probably other DEs as well), you can press Super+. to open an emoji picker.

  • And the search Dog and Wizard. I suppose those don't count much, but they are worth remembering.
