He literally just kidnapped the head of state of another country using military force.
Well yes (although I'd argue how much of that was him vs Rubio), but doing so was preceded by a large naval buildup that we don't see with Greenland. Not to mention that those naval assets are still there extorting Venezuela and another naval deployment of that size would leave INDOPACOM under resourced for maintaining the Island Chain containment on China.
Basically, it's not actually a serious threat at this point.
Well no, as the article says he's already been admonished by two popes but if he's going to keep doing heinous stuff while claiming to be catholic they've sort of got to keep calling him out.
It is about a corrupt president who wants the Epstein files to be forgotten and maybe about resources
Personally I suspect it's actually about Vance and Miller needing a way to get Trump's attention back from Rubio after Venezuela. Trump is currently fixated on military intervention after he got a "win" so they need a target they know Rubio won't follow them on, hence Greenland.
Nothing has been "banned" they just issued editorial guidelines on what term to use. As they (and all other media organizations) do with everything, it's just how journalism works.
I'm not sure it's really either yet. Nothing much seems to have changed in terms of how Venezuela is governed on a day to day basis and Maduro is still alive and the main plan to stop him returning seems to be for this DoJ, on the back of a series of failures to convict Trump's political enemies, to secure a conviction of a guy who, however much of a dick he's been in Venezuela, hasn't comitted any crimes in America or against any Americans as far as I can see.
So, I dont know what to call it right now but I have a sneaking suspicion the term "cluster fuck" will apply before it's done...
Will it though? Because if they don't try to occupy it what stops the overall regime continuing with a new leader? It survived Chavez's death after all, why would the removal of the far less popular Maduro faze it?
Especially if it is true that they're planning on sending him through the American justice system as they're currently saying. There's a reason the Bush administration kept the people they'd illegally kidnapped in Gitmo, well away from any actual judges. What the fuck do they do if a judge looks at all the illegal shit they've done to capture him and throws the case out? Let him loose in America? Send him back to Venezuela a conquering hero who pulled one over on the hated US?
Never mind Zelensky, if I were Taiwan's president I'd be looking at the US creating a big naval distraction for itself at the same time as affirming that heads of state are fair game with more than a little trepidation...
I don't think they were being literal: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/i-d-like-to-see
