I am Glitch Daracova, the breachforged cyberdragon, an immortal god to which age has no meaning. Fear me and despair. If you're lost, consult my lore (hyperlink missing). My pronouns are Maj/Majs—short for 'majestic,' regal and divine, as in "Maj rules majs kingdom."

  • I think it would be cool to self host a thin client system for my household. One main server with everything and I can manage it to ensure that it's working as it should. Thin clients that myself and fam would interact with for regular use.

Actually, I think I just want an easy way to have my pc in another room so I can use it without having to deal with the heat and noise.

Regardless, the important part is that it's in my house and under my control. The lack of control is why previous thin client scams were scams and sucked.

  • And that's just what I know of from observing for a couple hours every week. He's not a techie, and I'm out of practice.

I'm thinking either nvidia or dell is at fault, but I haven't had the time to investigate.

I should try to get the model and specs of the machine, and maybe start a thread about it in a linux help community.

  • Oh no, that sounds uncomfortable as fuck

  • I've been saying this for a while now. A good gui doubles as documentation.

  • This has been tried, and it sucked and failed every time.

  • Kde is laggy in general, taking a full second or longer to do things like open the start menu or other menus.

Graphical glitches on the secondary display, especially in 2d things like steam or various kde menus. displays are mirrored, btw.

Volume slider appears randomly in the middle of both screens, no apparant cause.

Some games that worked fine under windows don't work anymore, like cyberpunk 2077 (which is known to be better under proton than native windows).

Sound sometimes doesn't work, don't know why.

To resolve this, I tried to switch him over to Mint, because that's what I use and it's great on my machine so I should have tried that first. Laptop won't boot that live usb.

edit: another one, cannot open the driver control menu (I forget what it's called) at all.

  • So I put kubuntu on my bf's laptop (intel/nvidia), and it's been a painfully bad experience.

  • Fixed

    Jump
  • Much better

  • I've heard good things about that one, meant to watch it a long time ago.

  • It is unreasonable to expect users to understand.

  • I still haven't forgiven google for hijacking the g:/ drive letter. I was using that letter already!

Not that it matters to me anymore since I use Linux now, but still.

  • And fuck this thread for making me want to read it a second time! I already know it's garbage from the first time through!

  • Does it work on proton experimental? No? try proton 9.x! Did that work? okay and have a nice day

  • And now I know of another potential mincraft replacement, thank you

  • "What the fuck?" has been my reaction to pretty much everything since about 2016.

  • Same.

  • I am a dragon (metaphorically), and my hoard is supplies for abandoned projects. 😭

  • If you want to compare current stuff, then both are trash. sequel trilogy at least had the decency of being entertaining garbage while disco was 10% plot and 90% people talking about the 10% in case you missed anything while looking at tiktok.

original trilogy and next generation are both good shit, and are good for different reasons.

  • I'll just add it to the pile of reasons why ubisoft is on my shit list alongside ea, epic, and activision.
