  • Well, during the enlightenment it existed in a Christian context. I do not see how one can disavow monotheism and accept hermericism, since other gods in it are hardly important to say the least.

  • I hate the sun.

    Fuck that yellow bastard.

  • I would argue that the antireligious sentiments of "the left" and some liberals is a part of their civil religion.

  • Excuse me, is hermeticism not a monotheistic philosophy?

  • I am not advocating lowering taxes, just not increasing them beyond what is sensible.

Also, I sincetely doubt the richest people in America see me as an indentured servant. You are being overly dramatic.

  • I am not opposed to inreasing taxes necessarily, but people need to understand that the income of wealthy individuals is not used purely for the fulfilment of their needs and wishes. Rich people play a rather important role in allocating and managing resourses(capital) in society, and increasing the taxes will decrease the capability of rich people to invest, which is not ideal.

Also, if the tax increase is percieved to be unfair, rich people can just leave and go to Monaco or Switzerland or any other "rich friendly" country. They are pretty much free to do so and they do it all the time. So increasing taxes will not necessarily lead to more tax revenue if they are increased above what is reasonable.

I am so happy karma is not a thing here btw. I would be in an unenviable position otherwise.

  • I believe that it is the responsibility of society to provide for parents and children. We should make sure raising children is not particularly damaging economically. Saying that they "breed themselves into poverty" is just an excuse not to do that, as it is in this case.

For this reason, commenting "they will breed into poverty" under a post about tax cuts for mothers is quite misanthropic and idiotic, since it will probably decrease poverty.

  • A working class life is not quite worthless. I would not prefer it, but it is still worth living. You must think that too, otherwise you would kill yourself.

Also, they are not slaves in the literal sense, and I suppose, metaphorically, we are all slaves to society.

  • Right, becuase it is surely better for everyone to die childless, and for the humans to become extinct, since we definetly do not live in a period of incredible opulence.

  • Well, maybe I should not have used FRG and GDR as an example. I should say that this is not the point I was originally trying to make.

I used those as an example because they are similar countries, and contrasted it with comparing a european nation with a undeveloped african/asian nation. I was not trying to criticise east germany really, and I admit there are many reasons why it was and still is I suppose lacking compared to the west.

  • Well if you didn't I do not know how I can possibly explain your previous comment.

  • So you claim the USSR did not support East Germany because of anti-german sentiments, while the west invested quite a lot into the reconstruction of FRG. I am afraid I am not qualified to assess how accurate that claim is(the former half of it, specifically). But I am deeply skeptical about this, since it would be quite a useful propaganda tool both domestically and in the west. Also, the east had a communist government and it distanced itself from it's past. The internationalist ideology of the USSR should have triumphed over the nationalist sentiments that might have existed.

However, I should say, that the main point of my original comment still stands. Of course, there are always many factors at play and it is not the case that the disparity between the east and the west can be attributed to the economic system alone. However, this does not mean that such comparisons are not valid, and I still would say that comparing european countries to underdeveloped countries to say that life in eastern Europe "wasn't that bad" is quite absurd.

  • If only there was a superpower leading a blok of nations rivaling the west that could have supported east Germany...

  • Why would you not compare european communist countries woth european capitalist countries? Sure, africans and asians were poorer, but that goes without saying, honestly, what does that even have to do with this matter?

East Germany was poorer than west Germany. That tells us something. The fact that Ethiopia or whatever was poorer does not really tell us much about ehich economic system is better.

  • Just because you do not want them near your spaces does not mean they are not leftists.

I understand perfectly well how stupid that sounds, possibly better than you.

  • Well, they have dominated Marxist politics for quite a while, and I am not sure you can say they are not leftists because they are authoritarian, they have a lot more in common ideologically with other Marxists/socialists than the right, just because they prefer certain methods does not mean they are not leftists, and they do have traits that have always been associated with leftism, like opposition to tradition, monarchy, even capitalism, desire for revolution, etc.

  • If Marxists are not leftist, I do not know who is.

  • Well, if you just made an apple pie you would have also made a universe that would consist of only the apple pie.
