  • That is true (I love Cash and listened to a lot of his music), but a lot of cons will just take it at face value, same way they do with Punisher.

    Btw, Cash has this "shot my woman down" motif in other songs, like Delia's Gone, and always they end badly, like with him in jail. Too bad the cons only listen to those and skip pieces like San Quentin or Man in Black.

  • Mostly peaceful, really, same as these. But obviously when you have literally millions of people protesting, there's bound to be some not-quite-ok stuff happening in all the chaos. Property damage, stealing, that sort of thing.

    There's really no way to have zero violence at this scale, although I'd say there's a distinction between property damage and violence (one is done to objects and the other to people).

    Don't forget we remember MLK protests as mostly peaceful too, but the media did not portray them that way back then either. The copaganda is ever present. But look up the 2020 protests and you'll get a lot of headlines reporting that they were in fact like 99% peaceful.

  • If you looked inside their mind, that's probably what you'd see. They're conditioned to be in this perpetual state of persecution. It's sad, really, they don't even get that there's fascism happening so they think any mentions of it are insults.

    But that doesn't excuse anything, they should know better. They're bad people helping a bad cause and there's nothing wrong with being mean to them.

  • I don't mean to equate the situations, they are completely different (I wrote a reply above about that just now). In Ukraine you don't have an ongoing genocide of a small population with no army on a small piece of land about which all of the west is lying while giving weapons to Russia. I was only pointing out that the aggressors in both cases are rabidly genocidal and medieval in their actions and goals.

  • Correct. And I really don't want it to come off that way, so I apologize if I did.

    I'm maybe a little anxious when Russia comes up in leftist circles since there's a tendency among some to downplay their atrocities, which absolutely do come with genocidal intent if you follow their official propaganda via state media and such. And of course on the front their soldiers commit civilian massacres, kidnap children, and whatever else they can get away with.

    But yes, the scale isn't even close, like you said: Ukraine has an actual army, western backing, and can actually fight back. Meanwhile, Palestinians have been been left to literally starve to death after being bombed to death. Not only is the west complicit through silence and manufacturing consent, but they actually give Israel the bombs. The Gaza genocide is the most horrific event I've witnessed in my entire life, even from halfway around the world it has left a permanent stain on my faith in humanity.
