  • I don't know if first authorship needs to go away. I've definitely been 2nd or 3rd author for a few days of work (as compared to months of work for the first author).

You can give detailed attribution (many papers require them nowadays), but no-one ever reads them.

  • Polar is not supported by Gadgetbridge (yet?), you can find the supported devices here.

Normally I would advice Bangle.js, but it is not great for swimming.

  • In the order of 40000 people, so pretty tiny compared to the big search engines.

  • Very nice. I hope the cox realizes 5 is off-pace.

  • A candidate for genuinely Dutch hot dog-like food are maybe broodjes rookworst:

Or maybe even worstenbroodjes, now that I think of it...

  • The WHO discourages this because people will start associating the name with the disease. Which sucks if you happen to have this name. See Tourette's, or Chagas disease.

You can read a bit about it here.

  • This is how I started in a tiny room. I am not proud, but maybe good to show between all the shiny things here.

  • Unfortunately there are many counterexamples, large animals that live long in the wild tend to have shorter lives in zoos, like elephants, hippos, and monkeys.

  • It is nice, but not e-ink

  • My personal printer works flawlessly on Linux, except that it cannot be convinced to print double-sided, no matter how deep I dig into the settings. Boils my blood.

  • You may be surprised to learn that not all inhabitants of a city work in the tourism industry.

  • Most consumers are familiar with the 802.11 standards

Lol, no. Not in any way.

  • "Pipe"

  • Ceci n'est pas perdu

  • https://filebrowser.org/ just exposes a filesystem you point it at. Never had problems wit this. For syncing you can use syncthing.

  • Anyone have an recent example of FDC Willard being thanked in a paper? I couldn't find any, sadly

  • Aweful idea: do you want to plan a meeting at 16:00 with colleagues in the US? It is very hard to tell if this makes sense without timezones. Is this in their working day? Or the equivalent of midnight? Or something else? There are no timezones, so there is no way of telling without looking at some shady website how many hours you are shifted - which is basically the concept of timezones anyway, but shittier.
