  • Several people here have mentioned the genocide in Palestine, which I accept is a major issue and one no one should be dismissive of. Biden himself acknowledged the validity of the issue in his speech to the DNC.

I honestly find Biden's decision to keep spending so much money arming Israel baffling, but there is at least some chance Harris will change that policy.

But if Harris doesn't win the White House, Trump's policies will intensify the perescution of the Palestinians and also lead to pogroms, if not actual genocide, in the US and elsewhere.

I agree this is not a happy choice to have to make. But it's also quite clear which is the right choice.

  • Tear it all down and start fresh or GTFO.

    Okay.

    Now what?

  • I assume they really have blocked me, but I leave it to the good Lemmings of Lemmy to decide whether the non-sentence, 'CaptainKickass says they stabbing children is wrong', really constitutes a condemnation. The truth will out!

  • And yet you still haven't actually said it. I think it's reasonable to ask what it is you have to hide.

  • Have you?

  • Part of me still reads it as 'slur punk', which sounds appalling.

  • FIFA. Every man and boy in England loves FIFA, except me. I find it totally boring and pointless.

  • No. But physical proof is not the standard we use for determining someone's historical existence.

  • Earthsea is very good. It's kind of YA, but from before the term existed, so it should be good if you find your mind wandering when reading. Plus, it gets progressively darker and weirder as the series goes on.

  • Oh, yeah. We're all here on this famously rainy island but, sure, blame rain for the lack of growth. Not the government, of course not.

  • And when there's any chance of us having to fight a defensive land war against Russia, I will admit I was wrong.

  • It is a bad idea, which is why nearly everywhere has stopped doing it and hardly anywhere has started again.

  • Which is exactly why the army has been asking for more funding, which it actually needs. It doesn't want conscription, which it recognises would be a waste of resources.

Other countries considering a bad idea doesn't make it a good idea.

  • Another unfunded pledge from the Conservatives. What do we want? Housing! What will we get? Conscription!

David Cameron already did this anyway with the voluntary National Citizen Service. He also promised to eventually make it involuntary but never did, presumably because it was unworkable, expensive or both. So, what has changed to make it workable or inexpensive?

  • Once had a motorist furiously shout, wave and honk his horn at me because he hadn't checked his mirrors to see that his generous offer involved me cycling directly under the wheels of a bus. I live in London. It was a bright red double-decker. He hadn't seen it.

  • Bizarre day where both Kate Osamor and Natalie Elphicke (re)join the PLP.

  • Yeah, I signed up to one of the group-buying schemes that Sadiq Khan brought in, in theory to make it cheaper to put solar panels on your house. The company that got the contract ended up going bust, so no solar panels for me! At least I got the deposit back.

  • True. But I think if I wore, like, a Star Trek comm badge, that'd raise more questions than if I wore an Arsenal t-shirt!

  • Good point. As a man, I neither clothe nor groom myself, these being baffling, feminine activities. (For the curious, I wear a single beige tunic and wash myself in rainwater.)

  • It's funny how cosplaying is seen as this weird niche nerdy activity... unless it's as an athlete.

Although, having said that, we do have the term 'full kit wanker' in the UK, for anyone who buys the whole kit (not just the t-shirt, scarf or hat). Because, you see, there's an acceptable quantum of cosplaying.
