  • We need to make people's lives shorter, poorer, and harder in order to make people's lives longer, richer, and easier.

  • Hell if I know but I maintain a level of suspicion towards any fad diet. This dude is seconds away from trying to sell me supplements and cannot be trusted even if he's honest (he's not)

  • He's fully committed to bullshit. "Metabolic illness" is a chud dog whistle that encompasses multiple medical conspiracies like seed oils, GMOs, fad diets, even ivermectin. You can see the dude claim that keto cures cancer and that "synthetic" hormones in BC cause cancer. Your body cannot tell the difference between homemade progesterone and bioreactor progesterone.

All X-rays raise your lifetime risk of cancer but the risk is calculated. One chest X-ray is equal to 10 hours of flight or a year living at higher altitude (like... Calgary altitude, not Nepal). A mammogram is about 34 days worth of normal background radiation. Not nothing but not really that much either.

Thermography is too low resolution to detect anything but large, advanced tumors.

Ultrasounds are good at additional diagnostic screening but can't see stage 0 cancer. Mammograms can.

MRIs are basically the diagnostic gold standard for anything inside a human body and they cost a fuckton of time and resources to operate, so their use is prioritized on things that other tests can do about as well. Like mammograms, which are just as capable as MRIs. MRIs might be used in addition to mammograms for high-risk individuals but the false positive rate is too high for normal screens. Because they see everything.

Cochrane receives funding from chiropractic orgs. Opinion discarded.

Mammograms pick up 4-6 cases per 1000 women. Not whatever he's saying.

And if mammograms can cause or make cancer worse by applying pressure, it's a miracle everybody isn't sick with glute cancer or foot cancer.

  • It's not even hard to cook a turkey, it just takes a long ass time to do it properly. Those people deep frying their turkeys, that's the most American way to do it

  • Seems like the guy in charge is the guy with the detonator then

  • Not so, the protagonists all spearhead mass movements. Paul without the Fremen dies in the desert. Leto needs to take the throne to do anything and still only rules by hydraulic despotism because the forces arrayed against him are significant and linger for thousands of years.

  • Second one is generally held to be the worst one. Leto II's project begins in book 3 and ends in book 4, which is held to be the best in the series, alongside book 1. Very different reads though, since 1-3 form an effective trilogy and 4 is a huge tone shift.

  • He writes Paul as a man who has lost control of his kingdom and then follows up with a book where Paul says he's millions of times worse than Hitler and goes blind in an attack he didn't see coming, and then follows it up with a book where Paul's children have to actively fight against their family to not be killed by a zealot grandmother or a possessed aunt (who commits suicide because she can't bear the possession any longer), and then follows it up with a book where Leto is the Loneliest Man Alive and literally everyone in the universe fucking hates him except his army of lesbian supersoldiers (which he unceremoniously divorces because his enemies devised the ultimate bait: a woman who feels empathy towards him).

Paul isn't even presented heroically in the first one, he's manipulating a population that's been primed by indoctrination generations ago for a messiah and he hates the entire process of doing so. Leto is a pathetic and reviled figure who basically lets himself be killed because he's addicted to bullying the clones of his dad's best friend.

  • What, canned? If it's properly made you just melt a shitload of cheddar into a roux and you're done

  • Zorhald Mamdanump

  • The desktop was always a conscious design decision to bridge non-users by providing analogies to what they were familiar with at the time. And besides that, hierarchical taxonomy is a great way to organize anything.

  • You can turn unstructured data like strings and images into vectors, which are 1D arrays: [1, 4, 8, 2, ... 8, 3.5, 9, 1] is a vector. Each number in a vector is basically a score of how close that original data is to a semantic concept. A picture of an apple and the string "apple" both score 1 on Apple and highly on Fruit and a zero or something on Mineral. Vectors can be any length really, so any one vector can define the proximity of original data to tens of thousands of concepts. An orange scores high on Fruit, but not Apple, so in a vector search, if you search fruit you'll get both apples and oranges. If you search Florida fruit, you'll get oranges but not apples. Search pie recipe, apples show up but oranges don't. And so on. Vector searches will retrieve things that are semantically related.

You fill vectors by training computers to sort the data themselves. You train the computers by exploiting tens of thousands of third world workers to manually categorize information and double check the computers until the success rates are high enough from the automated categorizers to fire the workers.

  • Did they actually or did they say they're going to

  • Sumo are probably close to what Roman gladiators looked like. Dudes would bulk up because you can cut into fat without crippling injury but still get some blood going

  • LLMs are a dead-end technology that have become the Topic of every conversation because they're being forcefully crammed into every corner of our lives by corporate interests desperately fighting against the tendency of the rate of profit to decline by opening new product horizons, as well as by Tech Morons who think they're literally producing God.

The ultimate goal of the technology, as steered by the investors pouring a trillion dollars into it, is to automate information-capital laborers. Accountants, software developers, customer service, lawyers, doctors, translators, managers, and so on. All desk jobs. Is this bad? Not necessarily, but we live in a world where you will suffer and die without a job.

Further, the dystopic dream of automating all jobs isn't some big win for the capitalists in terms of cost. LLMs use more resources and more money at a worse environmental impact to produce worse results than human employees, and it's seemingly intractable from their design. The only victory capitalists take from their mass deployment is in some hypothetical great victory over labor. It doesn't matter if it costs more and performs worse because it can't strike or demand better wages or unionize or drag them out of their homes in the night or blow up their factories.

So in gestalt, LLMs are a tool for capitalists to crush labor, and the enormous expense inherent to their use means they have highly limited utility in any socialist system where they'd be responsibly wielded.

  • Absolutely stacked year imo

  • There's an audio cue for when to parry or dodge for every attack, once you notice it and learn the timing window you can pretty much guarantee a perfect parry with your eyes closed, every time. After that it's just not letting yourself get faked out and remembering the combo sequences of a couple of faster enemies.
