significant counterparty risk

  • As this is a cultural artifact I'm sure there are many ways of interpreting it, but I thought tankies were the people who think it's right to suppress imperial-backed anti-democratic coups by any means necessary, and that it originated from the events of the Hungarian Revolution.

  • Don't forget napalm and defoliants.

  • What about Israel? Should it be "destroyed" as well?

  • That would be nice, but what about the Minsk agreements? Just ignore them? Could they even be implemented at this stage?

  • I get that, for some baffling reason, you're defending Democrats, but their other option is to reject funding and cause another government shutdown. That could be combined with the current general strike (by extending it past the Jan 30 deadline to get the government funded) to bring the whole country to a complete halt unless ICE gets the fuck out, Trump and Noem impeached / locked up, or whatever other demands the people have of their government. This would be a fantastic use of political power to enable democratic expression and improve the lives of millions of people! That being said, there's no way the Democrats will do that. Instead, they support the Republican efforts.

  • This topic has come up a lot (not least from Cory Doctorow). The fact that the rich are both so fragile and so un-creative is why they love AI, especially the sycophantic variants. They can't handle someone saying no to them or, apparently, an accurate description of the past that isn't completely flattering to them. Let them work in food services, lol.

  • What does a win for Ukraine look like to you? Just wondering.

And btw, from an outsider perspective it's funny and cringe to see the attacks on your comment. I'm afraid those commenters don't have wherewithal to be as embarrassed as they should be, but it's a good point, that Ukraine has gotten a lot more outside funding (about $380 bn) than the USSR did to defeat Germany in WWII (about $250 bn in today's $). I hadn't noticed that.

  • Destroying a country is "the right thing"? Homey you're part of the problem.

  • Strikes don’t end until demands are met.

They usually end when Democrats fold, like the rail strike of 2022 or the more recent government shutdown. The demands don't get met.

  • When it aligns with the desires of capital.

  • Nothing good comes out of Israel.

  • This is an argument for community run fiber, not for Musk.

  • Didn't Denmark just scare Trump away from Greenland (for now) by threatening to sell like $100 million of treasuries, or some small amount like that?

  • Are people going to start listening to their "paranoid" nephews yet?

  • Oh yea, for decades. US border patrol is known for seeking out and dumping water jugs left out for migrant families seeking asylum in the US so that they literally die of thirst instead.

  • Pull the fuse, good idea! I bet that would set off all kinds of alarms in the car's computer and it would constantly tell you to go in for service but that's a decent trade off.
