  • I always picked the castle as a kiddo. Where the fuck did the last 30 years go?!

  • I used reddit for searching stuff purely out of convenience (which lemmy instance do I choose for the site: query?) but for everyday content it's exclusively lemmy ever since I went on a mission of deleting all my commercial social media accounts.

  • You can self host the services you need, but admittedly that's not feasible for most people.

  • Window units literally don't exist in the UK. Air conditioning is for rich people and businesses here. Portable units are also generally terrible, they're loud and only manage to cool a room by a few degrees C.

  • For science I need to know

  • Thanks for recommending JShelter! I'll add it to my list

  • I really wish there was a foolproof way of preventing fingerprinting. Disabling JavaScript unfortunately isn't really an option, no-one builds websites with progressive enhancement in mind these days.

  • This seems like a heavily AI-written article with all the bullet points, weak arguments and general air of positivity. Doesn't help that rye-init is nowhere to be found in the AUR either.

  • I sleep with a stuffed animal I've had since I was a kid. I don't think it's that unusual.

  • Recent notifications that you haven't manually dismissed / cleared appear as a little bell icon in the tray. Clicking that reveals them all.

  • CLion's worth checking out. It's free for non-commercial projects.

  • I mean...... god damn....

  • I lived in the US for a couple of years and when I left I signed up to Traveling Mailbox so I didn't miss any mail at my old address. Just set up mail forwarding with USPS and you're good to go.

As far as the IRS goes - you can use your foreign address just fine on a 1040/1040-NR.

  • I used to have an hour of Internet a week as a kid. I'm sure it cost a lot paying per minute.

  • Personally I think parents should just monitor their children's online activity. It feels silly to try and regulate the internet as a whole. That ship has clearly sailed though.

  • The only things I have that are American are Steam, Battle.net and a Google account for Google play only. It's definitely possible, but not easy.

Still no real solution for Android apps without a Google account. I need my bank's app as it's impossible to use online banking without it.

  • They were never anyone's friends.

  • I've found John Lewis and Argos to be pretty decent replacements for Amazon. Similar shipping times, and decent variety.
