Something I'll never understand about Google is that they don't seem to understand that killing every project that isn't instantly super profitable also kills consumer confidence.
I wouldn't even consider using a new Google thing for the first few years of its life since I fully expect it will be chopped sooner or later. Case in point: Killed by Google
If you don't mind sailing the high seas, Windows LTSC is about as debloated as Windows gets. LTSC is an official windows version but isn't available for retail purchase, as it's intended for iot and embedded systems.
Yeah, they're definitely pretty interesting. I'm usually interested in the other end of the build volume scale with large machines, but it's super cool to see how they manage to pack so much into such a small space!
That's fair, I think I misread the tone of your initial comment and got peeved. Voron could very well be the poster child for open source hardware projects and has a huge community around it.
It's definitely strange that you had trouble accessing the voron documentation, it's likely they were just having issues with their site. It can usually all be found at docs.vorondesign.com. RatRig also has pretty solid documentation but it can be a bit harder to find. Afaik it's all at ratrig.dozuki.com.
Plenty of open source projects out there, not sure why you would claim otherwise. The biggest is probably Voron, but it's far from the only one- Others that I'm familiar with are RatRig, Positron, the 100, the Micron, and Powerbelt3D, but that's far from an exhaustive list. There's even an SLS project called SLS4ALL.
Documentation and open source are two orthogonal concepts. I've seen plenty of well-documented closed-source projects and just as many open-source projects with no documentation at all.
The OSHWA definition doesn't really touch on documentation aside from saying that the design should be provided in the "preferred format for making modifications to it."
An analogy is an explicit comparison between two concepts. Analogies are often signalled by words such as 'like' or 'as'. (Edit: As someone pointed out, similes use these words. Not all analogies do. I wasn't completely paying attention when I wrote this, sorry!)
In contrast, allegories are stories that implicitly draw a connection between two concepts. A good example of this might be George Orwell's Animal Farm. On it's face, it is a story about animals revolting against their owner and creating their own system of governance. While it generally follows the story of the Russian revolution, Orwell never directly states this. Instead, it is up to the reader to figure that out.
Oh yeah to clarify I'm not defending the owner or anything, I was just trying to say the price codes at costco are probably not related to whatever is going on here.
On a whim, I did an internship at an architecture firm doing low voltage and media design while finishing my theatre degree. It opened my eyes to the possibility of working outside the entertainment industry. I ended up going back to school for a mechanical engineering degree and now I'm just over a year into my role at an industrial components company. I'd say it worked out pretty well!
