  • JS at least has Typescript to mitigate most of its problems, but mypy leaves a lot to be desired.

  • I hope it gets there. I was a sublime user until vs code's integrations got so far ahead that the productivity gains outweighed the slowness, but I really want it to be faster.

Do zed plugins have to be written in rust? If they do then that will slow community contributions since it's not as popular as JavaScript for vs code.

  • You have to go out of your way to install non play store apps on Android and for the average user there aren't a ton of use cases so most users don't side load apps anyways. I don't understand what they're so afraid of. They don't even have to worry about other marketplaces being installed by default since they have a hardware monopoly

  • That still requires organizing busses and everything.

  • The staff that was boarding the plane may be working on boarding other planes now. The gate may no longer be available and taking one may require coordination with another plane and that could also cause delays to the other plane. The ground staff needed to get the plane to the gate would be needed again. There's plenty of staff that's not in the plane that's needed that are probably busy working on other planes.

  • Won't fix it but a bunch of people will now know, so I guess that's something?

  • It's more work for them and I guess more work costs them more money?

  • Corrected title: Glass in front of Mona Lisa splattered in soup at Louvre Museum in Paris by food protesters

This happens so often it's kinda like a publicity button protestors can push for headlines.

  • Imagine if there was a specific series of words that would turn any human into a rogue agent en masse. Some guy discovers that a special input causes killbot 2000 to go haywire and they broadcast it to an entire army that all has the same underlying program.

  • Programming is "just text". They doesn't mean that programming isn't incredibly powerful or that it can't be used to do dangerous things. Maybe the missing piece that you're unaware of is that LLMs are already very effective at programming and usage APIs. You don't even need to have an LLM that's good at programming to cause damage, it just needs access to APIs that can cause damage.

  • It'll be like when we were all supposed to lose our jobs to outsourcing

  • The bigger the animal the less efficient too, since there's more time needed for them to grow and they're using more energy the entire time they're growing since they're bigger.

  • Not just scale but also accessibility. Now anyone can make these without having a specialized skill.

I don't think any laws targeting deep fakes should treat them as prohibited material, that would be invasive on freedom of speech and privacy rights for something like possession to be made illegal.

Instead it should be treated as harassment. At a bare minimum we should make the situation where someone targets someone they know and distributes pictures of them to other people they know illegal. For example, if someone were to create and distribute deepfake porn pictures of a classmate to other classmates, that situation should not be allowed to happen.

When it comes to a person of note where it's happening more in the background I feel that's more of a grey area since it's not necessarily a direct target since the person neither knows them nor their social circle, but I think there's a big difference if it's being distributed on a social media platform that the celebrity is on or discussed, vs a porn site.

  • And typescript is basically just a linter on steroids

  • Spreading it is a shitty thing to do. If you want to make it in your own privacy that's your business, but don't spread it around. It's not like it's hard to make.

  • Maybe it's because I get alcohol delivered at some point. I think it's the same thing though, when something needs online verification the workaround right now is to just send a photo of id.

  • My electric kettle heats water super fast. I don't know where the idea that 120v electric kettles are slow came from. Maybe kettle tech used to be worse but I have zero complaints about my kettle speed and I have used European kettles too.
