  • I used to go to the retirement home in the cul-de-sac down the road. No kids really thought about going there, they'd just stay on their own roads and streets. The old lonely folks there were practically waiting at the door, all outside lights on. My friend and I would make out like bandits every year with big bars, popcorn balls, homemade fudge and cake bars. Literal pillowcases full of top shelf candy and baked goods.

  • Some of it is, yeah. I think a lot of it is pro-technology. I'm a little iffy on AI myself. I want to be an author, and I feel that these days I'd be accused of using AI to write.

    Hell, I enjoy using semi-colons, but have had to stop because people think that any semi-colon in a post or comment is AI generated.

    Hope I caught you before you hit that block button. I wish you the best of luck and for what its worth, I'm sorry this happened.

  • I mean, fair. I don't think we're all horrible here on dbz, though. Whereas I've never blocked an instance, I do like that the option is there.

    I still think a lot of us here are just pirates who enjoy self-hosting. And some of us are simply ADHD and autism comrades, as dbz is understanding and inclusive about us.

    Plus, I have instance hopped, too. I had lost my .world 2fa, so I moved without researching and found myself in the middle of a war that I was not happy being in. So I do get it.

  • All instances are a group of individuals. If you're looking for a community without any assholes at all, let alone instance, you're in for a very unhappy surprise.

    I'm reminded of an old small-community MMO I used to play where one player literally blocked anyone who said anything they didn't align with. It wound up with them pretty much asking questions in world chat and wondering why no one would answer, even though they got like 4 answers.

    So if you're out to block every instance that has people in it with unhinged views, your lemmy is going to be very quiet someday. That might be how you want it, so I'm not saying don't do it. You do you. I'm just saying that you can't find gold without digging through dirt. Blocking a whole instance based on individual comments/posts that you've seen just seems a bit extreme to me.

  • I agree. This is less an AI problem and more of a singular abuse of power from an individual of the instance inside their moderated communities. I wouldn't tack it on to the whole instance itself. Plenty are here for pro-anarchy or, like myself, just pro-piracy (in the case of giant corporate powerhouses charging disgusting prices for games and "ad-less" tier streaming services). I wouldn't necessarily call myself an anarchist, though I do align with some of it's views, but I wouldn't call myself anything else, either. I pretty much just don't enjoy politics.

    This is a clear case of mod harassment, rather than instance harassment. But if the only thing they can do is ban OP from instances they don't even want to see... well, they didn't accomplish much. So much so, that this could get legitimately posted in "Saved You a Click". However, its good to put antics like these in the spotlight. Some people need to be power checked.

  • I can't be sure, but it almost looks like the cop who shot her bent over laughing after. Watch them closely, the smoke nearly hides it. They take a split second like, "Should I do it?" then haul up and fire. Then it looks like, "Aw, I only shot her in the leg as a joke." Innocent prank, I'm sure... cunts.

  • Disney Plus, Netflix, Hulu, Cable TV, etc.

    The lower class usually get up for their hardworking but ill-paid jobs. The one thing they want to do is go home and turn on the TV and just have their one streaming service work when they've been busting ass all day.

    The upper class doesn't really care what the price is, they just have every service stream what they want.

    The middle class makes just little enough to not warrant paying that much for a shit streaming service so that they can save up for x hobby, so they'll pirate all day.

  • I have one of the old Ripley's Believe It or Not books by mine. It's wild how many things in there that amazed people back in the day aren't really that amazing or unbelievable anymore. The internet has made the world a pretty jaded place.

  • Lol, I just mention it because I have no other experience with Ladybird. There's an Ubuntu/Debian section and a Choco for Windows. I would assume macOS uses homebrew, but I didn't read that far into it. I can only confirm that I got the Arch version working after a bit of compiling.

  • I saved the best of my VHS for a long time. I couldn't get them for a while as I was moving around. The boxes were in a flood, but the tapes were at the top. Unfortunately, my yearbooks were at the bottom. Anyway, I finally got them out of my mom's basement where she'd been holding them for me. This was a couple weeks ago.

    I was excited to see all those old movies again, but unfortunately I noticed on second glance that the film inside the tapes were either spotted white or completely white. That was the day that I learned that VHS tapes could actually rot. Its a shame...

  • You can already test it out in very early alpha, but I can tell you now that it's just a portal with very basic browser controls. You'll have to build it through the Python script.

    I built it through Arch already and its a working browser is about all I can really say about it. The little I tried of it works.

  • It wasn't supposed to stay Apple exclusive. In fact, when I last used Windows there was a beta build out for Arc. However, there were also multiple Firefox styles in the CSS Store that made Firefox into Arc.

    Then Zen Browser came out, and I'm currently watching it get very popular. I don't doubt that Zen Browser is one of the reasons Arc is shutting down. It's nearly an exact copy, but now with more features (and is constantly coming out with even more faster than Arc can think of them).

    I'm excited for Ladybird as well, but I'm not expecting anything crazy when it comes out of alpha and beta. I fully expect to wait a bit, maybe download to contribute some troubleshooting, but it may not be viable as a main use browser for a long time yet.

  • I had just learned how to shoot a rubber band with one hand at school in 5th grade. 1998ish. Thought it was the coolest thing. I had this teacher everyone hated. She was so self centered and mean.

    So from the back of the class, I shot a tiny rubber band toward her. She unfortunately saw me out of the corner of her eye. She immediately went into hysterics and I was sent out of class to wait in the office. My mother was called to pick me up. This teacher was crying into the arms of the principle like some victim of some heinous act.

    My mom found out that the teacher was one of her best friends from Catholic school. Was outraged at me. I had no idea wtf they were so mad about. I've shot tons of rubber bands in class and never before had they gone so nuts about it. I only find out later that they had told my mother I had pretended to shoot a gun at my teacher.

    My mother threw me down two flights of stairs and held me on the wall by my neck, feet dangling. She hissed and spit in my face, telling me how embarrassed she was ana how hortible I am. And to this day she doesn't believe I was shooting a fucking rubber band like kids fucking do.

  • It happens to layouts. Some people add some small changes to make an alternate layout which makes more sense to them. For example, Colemak and Colemak-DH. DH only changes 3 keys, shifts 3, and swaps 2.

  • Was going to say. I've been lucky. My only experience with Discord has been sudo pacman -S discord. I barely use it, but I have some friends I keep in touch with on it.
