  • Tidal turbines are designed to be noisy enough to deter marine life but not so noisy that there are detrimental health and ecological effects. Not sure how successful this strategy is, but the scale of deployments is still small and more study and monitoring should be done before the scale makes big impacts from even small effects.

Typically, such vehicles are made in cheaper locations, taken apart and then reassembled closer to where they are sold.     There's got to be a better way to deal with the issues that have lead to this arrangement.

  • As I understand it, some studies don’t distinguish low-volume drinking from not drinking.

    The quoted portion of the meta-study in the post makes it clear that the studies reviewed did distinguish between low-volume drinking and not drinking.

    It wouldn't surprise me if sample selection not taking into account social factors which would cause people who drink at low volumes to lie and say they don't drink could play a role in certain studies.
