  • Why do people have transparent terminals? This would just distract me so hard.

  • I've used that font on an ereader for more then a year, then switched to something else and noticed no difference at all.

I've also seen research claiming that it does not help at all, so idk.

  • First couple of years? I was in my early teens when trying out many distros within a couple weeks, for example Puppy Linux, Ubuntu, Edubuntu, Ubuntu Netbook Remix, OpenSuse... Then I settled on Ubuntu and used that from 2008 to 2022, when I was fed up with Canonical shoving snapd down my throat and me having to uninstall it all the time. Since then I've used Debian exclusively, previously I only had it on some machines.

(I've also toyed a bit with the BSDs, but was missing systemd, so those never stuck with me.)

  • That seems to be something a cheap Raspberry Pi 4 can easily handle. I even use mine as an SMB share. Sure, the speed is limited by the network port and USB port sharing data lanes, but it's fast enough for my needs. Needs tiny amounts of eletricitiy, so I don't burn the planet that quickly.

  • I migrated my mother to GNOME (on Debian), that's very much unlike Windows, but she immediately got it. The overview of open programs is similar to what she knows on Android, for example. She is someone that struggles with email attachments from time to time, but GNOME works well for her.

It does not have to look like Windows to work for people. People use phones a lot more these days and those do not run Windows (hopefully, at least, cause that's dead).

  • Try out Debian. Stable, base of many other distros, loads of documentation, huge helpful community, just runs and barely ever breaks (I can't even remember the last time I had issues).

  • Somehow I, actually, find this font hard to read. o.O

  • I also sometimes does TTS while reading along, but most of the time I'm doing it it just means I should get some rest instead of forcing more focus (AuDHD).

  • Is there any science in this? I believe this might just be a preference. :D

  • Sure, but I still don't understand why they decided against semantic versioning. That way people would be far less confused.

  • That's just FUD. "Secure Boot keys are considered compromised."...

    some are... some

Doesn't mean it's better to turn off all security measures and live without them.

That's like saying a lightbulb stopped working, so now you live without electricity. :)

  • Security tools are there for a reason. Sure, I can encrypt my Linux rootfs, but that doesn't stop anyone from tampering with the initramfs. Secure Boot + UKI does.

  • Pebble app. There's Rockwork, but outside of Ubuntu Touch it will only produce empty notifications. There's Rockpool, that's only for SailfishOS. There's Amazfish, but so far it can only pair and then... nothing.

  • Me neither. Surely semver would be a lot simpler than having to explain it in a long blog post.

  • Does it stutter if you open Pavucontrol? I've seen a couple setups where Pipewire stutters when pipewire-pulse is used, as does Pavucontrol.

(In some setups this only happened when the volume indicator is enabled in Pavucontrol and disappeared when it was switched off.)

  • While the healthcare system certainly has to be improved in many ways, it does not amplify depression in itself.

People can also improve their quality of life in Germany.

Stick to facts, please. Even though this is the internet, yes.

  • WTF, Germany does not cause people to become depressed.

  • US government sucks, but that does not mean you suck. You're probably fine. I mean, you know that country is run by idiots, I'd worry more if you were fine with that... Anyway...

If you're taking meds, consider asking a doctor whether the dosage is right, incorrect dosages can lead to feeling depressed. Don't experiment, see a doctor, it's all just brain chemistry and can probably be sorted out. :)

  • Then just take it to your nearest hackerspace. Maybe have a couple interesting conversations there and you'll likely find use for it.
