These AI labs shouldn’t be private profit-seeking corporations. They should be more like publicly-funded nonprofit research institutions like Fermilab or something. It doesn’t seem possible to even talk about the labs without feeling like you’re increasing their value. That’s a problem. It’s also a problem that the research and announcements from the labs sound like publicity stunts. It’s hard to tell what’s genuine and what’s buzz for the press. There’s this arms race between the labs that’s negatively affecting seemingly everything. This should all just be put to an end. Step on the brakes. I don’t claim to know how to do that when the Constitution makes private property sacred, but, you know, just throwing the idea out there… The Constitution can always be changed.

I’ve always thought that cosmetic work which makes you look younger is dishonest. It’s a way to cheat and make people subconsciously think you’ve got the same capabilities of a young person when you’re actually going nearly senile. If Musk looked his age, he wouldn’t be nearly as respected. If congresspeople had to look their age with gray hair and bald spots, we’d be voting them out long before they become old farts.

In the months after the edit, there were numerous attempts to switch the order of the links leading to a discussion on the Awareness talk page. Following another discussion, the order was changed back in July 2026.
Following discussions like Talk:Mathematics#Hyperlinks missed in the first paragraph about over-linking in the first paragraph of articles, some first links were changed or removed in July 2026. As a result, almost no articles continue to lead to “Philosophy” as of July 2026

Only if the affected users know about the existence of lemmy, and many of them likely do not. If you happen to still be using reddit, you should use it to shill lemmy, hopefully in a diversity of subreddits so that lemmy doesn’t become any more of an echo chamber than it already is.

Now he talks about software. I happen to know a lot about software & Elon Musk is saying the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard anyone say, so when people say he’s a genius I figure I should stay the hell away from his cars and rockets.

I expect to see a hydra effect on the other end as well. Twitter’s trying to shut down the proxies with legal threats. When that doesn’t work, they will use technological measures like requiring you access it from an official mobile app with remote attestation. When (not if) all of the circumvention exploits are patched, there will be absolutely no means by which even the most well-meaning people (like archivists/preservationists and academics researching social media) can access Twitter in the way they need to to do their job.
It’s such a tragedy that the Earth had to be a sphere. I mean, I know it was inevitable. But come on, universe. A sphere? Really? You had to have known about Gauss’s Theorema Egregium, yet you chose sphere. Now we’re all fighting over who gets to be squished or enlarged and in what directions.
