  • I'm confused: why do we have an issue of AI bots crawling internet practically DOS'ing sites? Even if there's a feed of synthesized data it is apparent that contents of internet sites plays role too. So backfeeding AI slop to AI sounds real to me.

  • in response to all "it's just practical" posts: politics is not about practical (esp. in PP's case) but about optics and gestures. Politician who wants to project integrity and confidence would make it known that they will not be using the place that doesn't belong to them until such time that it becomes OK again. There needs not to be a "move" even, but the gesture of not utilizing residence could go a long way. Alternative is a projection of entitlement and arrogance.

    Consider this: if you're working for corporation and reside in corporation-sponsored residence, you'd be expected to vacate the place within rather short timeframe despite the fact that you've supplied your resume to HR for position that just opened. And considering that PP views are very corporate I see disconnect with rhetoric.

With Patel's stated mission of dismantling FBI I wouldn't be surprised he follows the same playbook, but this time making Dems choke finances for FBI for the lack of budget

  • Funny that Conservatives more likely to claim misinformation, exactly the group most frequently (as of recent) subjected to incredible amount of misinformation (mainly from their own leaders). Unfortunately poll doesn't disclose what kind of disinformation did they perceive.

  • To be fair, Western provinces cannot really outbid QC+ON combo in both chambers. While Parliament represents provinces based o population, I think Senate should've been an equal representation from each province balancing out inherent inequality of Parliament... It's not unprecedented for PM to appoint "extra" senators to represent West so Carney can do that to help things along.

  • sensationalism swings both ways: both right and left. 25% is a sizeable number and we kind of know the source of it: Western Alienation coupled with dysfunctional electoral system (FPP) it breeds disenfranchisement. Also to note 60% voter turnout with 52% of it going to UPC ends up being around 30%... in other words that's pretty much UCP base. And UCP is busy fostering Western Alienation because it's easier than actually try and tackle it. Persistently Insulting your opponent is not a way to maintain dialogue yet this is all UCP was doing for the last 6yrs. They ran province for 50yrs, sat on pile of cash, threw it out the window with billions mysteriously disappearing from budget and they cry a river about inequality and use Wexit as a stick hoping to scare Fed. People are pissed because province was turned into one-trick pony that is strapped to volatile oil prices and they are legit scared for their livelihood. UCP dismissed any proposals or offers to retrain existing workforce to soften the transition, instead they chose to double down on Alienation and Oil. What I'm saying is - Feds reached out with money and offers to help, UCP either neglected or outright declined to use that money, because it wrecks narrative where everything is Feds fault (if Feds are not Cons, but if they are, it's previous Fed fault). So, UCP is keeping average Albertan hostage to their "game of politics" while keeping folks enraged and sucked deep into vortex of falsehoods and very few in their electorate want to hear otherwise. Reality disconnect is too painful to admit so it's best to keep living this rage dream.

  • that tactic is called "racheting" and was polished south of the border. By using racheting right keeps racheting things up while left usually falters and finds itself pulled stronger towards the right. In other words Carney's capitulation today may sound like conciliatory compromise but watch Conservatives soon upping the ante and demanding more aggressive measures from their playbook. So both parties will keep on drifting to the right and now we have nobody to pull thingz to the left. NDP is no more, BQ won't act on behalf of the rest of Canada... without being part of US, US-style political system is here today, with two parties that barely differ from each other and throw a show every election to make populous think they actually elect someone and they do participate in governance.

  • genocide is only one issue, she willingly shifted all her policies "to the right" trying to lure republicans, meaning she was not about policies, she was about winning. If you have moral principles you stand by them, Bernie and AOC doing fine having the spine, DNC is hard at work supporting spineless candidates. Joe was OK-ish on many issues but he did walk away from student loan forgiveness and other things he promised. Kamala is a definite step down from Joe. US needs AOC ('cause Bernie is spent)

  • Now think about this fact: last election conservatives knew they were threatened by NDP, so you'd expect all the UCP loyalists to show up, but in fact turn-out is lower and results are way worse than prior election. In other words if we assume that those 70% contain more UCP supporters (or secession folk) I can't find plausible evidence to support that. So that's their entire electorate give or take a few thousands. The rest wants nothing to do with them. If it wasn't for FPP, AB governance would look very different. But like I said earlier - none of the parties (NDP included) is willing to change that.

  • look at the math: 60% turn-out, of which 52% voted UCP... that makes it ~31% at best. Which is my point. With FPP whoever is not willing to vote for any of the "major contestants" doesn't feel like their vote matters. So you've got 70% who did not vote for UCP for one or other reason

  • that tone is rather inflammatory. See my other post for more details but bottom line is that governing party was elected by about 30%-ish of population and they (UCP) intentionally promote more, shall we say, extreme (or, "uneducated" as you say) portion of the electorate. So painting entire AB with one brush is the same form of uneducated rant you've accused Albertans of. They are (like the rest of the country) trapped in FPP resulting in.... this. And every party that grabs the power immediately abandons idea of changing to proportional representation because they know they are not majority despite the appearances.

  • UCP has majority only thanks to FPP. There's plenty Albertans who'd vote different but feel trapped between two parties (Liberals are a non-existent entity there). I can guarantee you that anecdotally and from pure math majority government of AB represents views of 30% of it's population, meaning 70% did not vote for tham. And of those 30% representation only a very vocal minority is driving separatist talk... We can all thank FPP for that.
