  • Not sure where you're located, but without a "membership" for Tesla charging, the cost is about double any other company near me. It's insane and a great reminder to only use these chargers in an emergency when you have a vehicle capable of charging at higher speeds. Tesla's chargers derate all the damn time.

  • Bolstered by Cluster Truck? What? The 18% increase is more than triple the Cluster Truck's delivery numbers, and the article very clearly says that Tesla's deliveries only increased 1.2% after a five month "slump". Someone needs a better editor.

  • You haven't paid attention long enough. They have talked about a purpose built vehicle multiple times, they've talked about owners operating vehicles in a pool, they've talked about Tesla owning and operating vehicles, none of this is new. They've lied about this for a decade, but for whatever reason people keep believing.

  • I do realize. I also realize things like weight of the train, cost of the battery packs, the fact those packs will wear and need to be replaced faster than anything else in the system, and much more.

  • Bankruptcy (chapter 11) doesn't mean the company goes out of business, or that the share price goes to zero. It means they renegotiate debts, after presenting a plan describing how they'll be able to pay those renegotiated debts. If those debts can not be renegotiated, the company can not present a plan that offers paying them off, or the court rejects any part of the plan, then the company's assets may be liquidated to pay any outstanding debts.

    Being bought out would likely come before any of this, which again means the stock wouldn't be worthless.

  • He absolutely was. Early on, there was literally nothing Elon could say or do that would make Fred question Elon's integrity or genius. The change in Elon's relationship with Fred came when Fred finally actually owned a Tesla vehicle and realized it was a piece of shit. He had the audacity to ask Elon questions about quality problems people were reporting and Fred finally believed, on open Twitter, which got Elon to block Fred temporarily at least. What happened next in the community is the most predictable thing ever, as the True Believers turned on Fred and accused him of everything under the sun.

  • I guess if by a kernel of truth you mean an existing train was used on an existing track, then you could almost make it make sense? But since all of this existed before, it's just a lie.

    I'll also point out that anybody introducing battery electric trains instead of just electrifying the remaining parts of rail is making an astoundingly bad choice, but that's almost certainly Germany and not Tesla.

  • Interesting that they're licensing BYD's blades, I'd be very curious to see how those hold up against heavy use and warranty claims. It also feels like odd timing for BW to be announcing packs for commercial BEVs, given the fact basically every manufacturer has moved away from the ODM model and instead turned to either OEM or fully in-house manufactured packs. The cells are the parts that vehicle manufacturers need to source, and any of them that have tried to consume externally designed generic packs have had issues with packaging in their vehicles.

    The DCFC makes sense as a public charger, which they mention in their press release, and as a fleet DCFC. But unless they're doing something very unique or partnering with fleet operators, it's hard to see what this gains them.

  • The current democratic party isn't standing for trans rights any better than anyone else. Perhaps individual politicians are, but the party has a lot of de facto republicans in the ranks. So vote for them or not, they aren't going to make things better for folks that are trans. They also aren't ending wars, reducing military spending, helping vulnerable people seeking asylum, helping homeless people, providing free mental healthcare or national healthcare at all, and so on. Hell, they haven't enshrined abortion rights into law in the past almost 50 years.

    People vote for democrats because of tradition and lesser-of-the-evils reasons. That's it. That's a shitty place to be, and should embarrass us the voters as well as the party.

  • Trans rights are human rights, and how you treat anyone in your society is how you treat everyone. Democrats were scared in the '80s and '90s to support gay people for this exact reason, and instead of losing elections they started winning because people realize gay people are people. They lost elections because they weren't brave enough to stand with the courage of their convictions, and in my opinion that's what they deserved.

  • I give Tesla credit for what they did. Bilk state and federal governments out of billions of dollars with various schemes to build a car company that makes chintzy cars and sells them to over extended buyers for top dollar. That is the Tesla success story. They weren't first, or best, but they were able to expand their production based on debt and fraud unlike other players in the space.
