  • I suspect some employees (like the one of this article) are happy to do it for free… just for the fun

  • Copyright doesn’t work like that.

The fact that you put online (e.g. in an online shop or, heck, even for free on your website) doesn’t imply anyone can use it for anything they please.

For example an mp3 on a indie musician website for making people know their music, doesn’t mean people can start making CD out of it and selling them

You may say that piracy exists but it is illegal and AI training is pretty much for profit piracy (using something outside the intended scope defined by the author for profit)

  • Right but maybe the WSJ should have hired a Russian (or 3rd nationality) journalist for the role.

It’s not different on how things were in Cuba few years ago where it wasn’t possible to send US citizens there

  • This was not the driver, it was a config file or something read by the driver. Now having a driver in kernel space depending on a config on a regular path is another fuck up

  • If I had to bet my money, a bad machine with corrupted memory pushed the file at a very final stage of the release.

The astonishing fact is that for a security software I would expect all files being verified against a signature (that would have prevented this issue and some kinds of attacks

  • Clearly fake: LLM don’t mind citing their sources 😂

  • Wait! Vatican recognized Palestine?!?

Either way if what Spain said is true and Europe becomes green as well, it would be pretty much US, Australia and Israel to not recognize Palestine

  • Well there are billionaires that do pump and dump. He just seem a decent human being 😃

  • Clearly misread the tone of the comment 😃 nvm

  • You are really not talking about this any more.

What Germany has to do with this? What war has to do with this?

If you weren't a trustworthy internet stranger i would make conjectures that this is a topic that hits you personally and you live in Germany. And you are talking about yourself here.

But good you are a trustworthy internet stranger that totally would not look in all possible provisions and exceptions for justifying their actions

  • I never felt so close to try NetBSD as after reading this 😃

  • I guess each person is different. I have zero sexual interest for women under (at very least) 25 (i am slightly older than him at the time they meet)

Even if they look older than they are, i still have no interest because there is too much different life experience and expectations. I just don't click (as a friend let alone as lover or partner).

Why 18 and not 17 or 25? Well society decided this is a (imo conservative, could have been higher) threshold for old people to have sex with young people.

Also 17 year old people can totally have sex with people of similar age (and we all have done 🙂) so it is not really about sexual self determination but rather avoiding predatory/manipolative behaviors of (much) older partners/lovers

  • The position and length can be randomized, for sure you can throw ai at it… but ai is stupidly expensive… companies that offer AI systems are all operating that business at loss… and no big company would engage in something like this… distilled model on client? Sure… but who trains it? My point is… things can get worse and worse

  • If you don’t have to reencode but only concatenate the streams it can be done for your request specifically because it’s not meaningfully more expensive than just serving the content

  • I don’t use windows for close to 20 years so I didn’t need ntfsclone so far but do I read correctly the man page that only the source is specified as positional parameter? If so, shouldn’t you have to write

nftsclone —overwrite /dev/sdc /dev/sdb? It still can be misleading (given that mv uses two positional parameters so mv -f source destination would have done what you wanted) but a bit less cryptic?

  • Training a combat pilot used to cost (in early 2000, not sure now) 10M€ for a NATO member.

Find me a modern jet that costs so little. Regardless of what politicians say, human life has a price… and it is waaaay below a jet (even including the training)

  • As far as I heard (but I am not too familiar) the CEO is essentially never in the office.

Also, according to the video, the office is in California. People were arrested (and fired) in NY as well (where there is no such an office).

Yes, insubordination is the key point. But it’s also the key point of a protest. The take away is that Google doesn’t accept a protest (any more?)

Re trespassing: in the Google offices everyone can pretty much go to any office. They realistically didn’t break into but, sure, they were in an office that wasn’t theirs

  • Confidentially incorrect: at Google there is no clock in and no clock out (for employees, contractors is different). At Google you can work 1h per day or 20h per day you earn the same. Performances are assessed on the output not on the hour worked.

So, no, find another reason for which Google is right. Popular topic is “they disrupt other people work by making noise” (of course people can work on a laptop in another place because there is generally no special equipment at the desk but details) or “they destroyed properties… you cannot see in the picture but they destroyed millions of precious bacteria on the floor”
