  • The NCTA has repeatedly stated over the years that net neutrality rules aren't needed because ISPs already follow net neutrality principles. "Internet service providers have always delivered open, unrestricted Internet service. Consumers enjoy the web content and applications of their choosing without any blocking, throttling, or interference," the group said.

Lmao, really? The audacity of these cunts.

  • Nothing you send out to the internet can be deleted.

  • eSATA seemed like it had potential but I can’t say I ever actually used it. I remember those ports, though. Might have a motherboard kicking around in storage with one.

  • They’re attempting to massively increase the number of new students without also massively increasing the support required.

You can’t just bump intakes 40% without a plan.

  • Can I opt out of covering people who engage in extreme sports, or other reckless behavior?

I believe everyone is entitled to healthcare, even people who make bad decisions. Literally everyone.

  • Vaccines are not a personal freedom just like shitting in the creek behind your house isn't a personal freedom. Those decisions create public health nightmares. I don't think people should be allowed to smoke or vape in public where it could affect others, but what people do in their own time is their own business.

  • I don’t agree with those taxes. People are free to do with their body what they want, provided it’s not harmful to others. This is not the responsibility of the government.

Providing education so people can make informed decisions about the risks of the behaviors they engage in - now that’s a government (and parental) responsibility.

  • Let me consume nicotine in the least harmful method available. You don’t get to dictate what I do with my body. That includes all drugs.

  • Leave vaping alone, but ban those single use vapes with rechargable lithium ion batteries in them. It’s absolutely insane to me the amount of waste from throwing out perfectly good rechargeable batteries after one cycle.

  • That’s not a deployment order, and I feel this has been taken out of context by people unfamiliar with the military. I can’t say with certainty what this is, but it could be guidance like “don’t wear your uniform in public if you’re in Israel”. It wouldn’t have no restrictions on releasing it if it were anything important.

To say this is evidence of mandatory deployment orders is ridiculous.

  • IME rain and humidity has little to no effect. I can get 900mbps in clear skies or in a torrential downpour as long as I’m not behind multiple walls. The single wall I have to contend with at work (not counting cube walls) barely affects reception. If I’m standing under the tower I can get 1gbps.

  • I don’t feel it’s a downgrade at all. I get nearly as good download as my home connection and significantly faster upload. Never had any issues with 5G or 5G UC. T-mobile and iPhones.

  • Can’t say I’ve experienced forced reboots on either my home or work PC; I always have gotten an option.

Do you have to ignore updates for a while until they’re forced? I’m pretty quick with updating when I’m notified- typically that evening when I’m done with the computer.

I’ve been building my own windows PCs since 99, using every main version of consumer Windows except ME. Never been forced while in the middle of something.

  • Not AM. They’ve got an insulator at the base, the entire tower is live. There’s so much energy being transmitted you can get sparks off the fence surrounding the tower.

  • Buddhism is absolutely not “a doctrine for being happy now”. This statement makes it sound like you don’t even have a cursory understanding of Buddhism. Likewise with “nothing really matters for a Buddhist in the big picture sense”.

  • I dunno, I was active in piracy at this time and many, many more people knew about Napster than Google. Napster was news worthy in 1999; Google was not. Google is much more of a 00s phenomenon. You’ve got 9/11 between the two. Napster happened before all that.

It could be all in how I used it, but I’d herald the beginning of discovery right there with the widespread availability of 5Mbps cable broadband in the US, so early 00s, right there with the rise of Google. Napster is a bit early for that IMO. I understand you could but most people didn’t as 56k speeds really limited discovery by library browsing, not to mention poor tagging / file name etiquette.

By the time DC++ had risen in popularity, around 03-04, this was prime time library browsing piracy times.

Eh, whether or not we agree or disagree, it was fun to recall the early days of my journey. Have a good one.

  • RIP Google Reader too, a perfectly functional app Google killed.
