  • IIRC it’s reprint comics. I had a subscription to Mad that was later passed to my son that we kept until the very last issue. We grabbed a few recent ones and it looked like reprint content. Not sure if that’s changed.

  • I can’t say for certain they are but I’m of the same generation as him and grew up around conservatives that considered that type of “America at any cost” media to be sacred texts.

    When you scratch the surface on it, it’s all just thinly veiled jingoism in a glossy suit. Hence homeboys desire here to have a “cool guy” jacket with unearned valor on it.

    It’s 100% about the optics at the photo op after the real work has been done by someone trained and qualified.

  • It’s moments like this where we can see how much copoganda really affected some people’s perspective on the world. I am willing to bet there is no small part of this person‘s reality that they don’t think is straight out of a Tom Clancy novel, and they are the forces of good and justice.

    I guess being realistic with where we are now, straight out of an Amazon TV Tom Clancy series.

    There’s a lot of history on Steam and losing it to dead os’es sucks. I know my account has a few hundred games that are a pain in the ass to get running on modern hardware without PCGamingWiki, ModDB, Widescreen Gaming Forums, etc…

    Be cool to have them plug and play under proton.

  • Here’s a couple to try!

    Gruesome - they fully embrace that era and ape it pretty well.

    Cryptopsy - a bit more tech death but lots of that Chuck style guitar work.

    Tomb Mold - these guys rip live, are named after a bloodborne item and make sweet ass old school death metal.

    Undeath - another band that keeps the classic death metal spirit alive. The production on this album is pure early 90’s Florida. They also fucking destroy live.

  • If you have some examples, I might have some recommendations. Mainstream popularity is a weird thing now as there are more listeners for every genre. Metal is where I have spent most of my life being a fan so I may have something in the bank you’d like.

  • Recently caught “grandson” live. Bob Vylan was supposed to be their touring partner but then… facism. They’re not traditional punk in their sound but carry a lot of those ethos lyrically. The more recent stuff is like modern rage against the machine (and the show felt like those did way back)

    Anyways, it was really inspiring to see a new generation embracing those ideas and sharing in them communally.
