  • Okay but also don't record people without their consent and post it publicly. Idk why she was suspended but that would be reason enough.

If you think it would be evidence of a crime and you felt like you needed it to pursue charges I could understand saving a photo or video privately to later turn over, but suppose dude got blitzed, ordered DoorDash, and passed out before it arrived, and you're gonna share that with 8 billion of your closest friends? Gtfo

  • The bottom level of your file system is /, not C:, and other drives or partitions you have will be represented in subfolders like mnt or something.

Everything is represented as a file, even things that are not strictly speaking a file on your primary hard drive.

The part that you interact with the most, your graphical user interface, has a particular name, like gnome, kde, xfce, icewm, etc.

When you have to open a terminal, you might be interacting with different shells as well, but it will usually be bash.

Always install from the repos unless your nerdy friend who helped you get set up says it's okay to download this or that particular app.

Maybe include a bit about how to run regular backups automatically.

And also list out different alternative programs relative to what they might be used to in a Microsoft environment.

  • I expect it's stuff like ATMs, Coinstar machines. Things that may need to phone home regularly but don't need to sit online constantly.

  • Against, regardless of crime. Regardless of the system used to kill. Regardless of the system used to convict or identify the criminal. Even if they are unrepentant and said they'd do it again. Even under a perfect justice system.

    Now life in prison, sure.

  • What crap. But I guess making useful software would require effort.

  • $2m bond for memeing too hard? Gtfo, I hope FIRE metaphorically beats all those yokels from cop to prosecutor to judge. No less than three public officials with not possibly more than 2 brain cells between them.

  • I like Aegis.

  • There are so many 2D barcode formats.

  • I believe she's also said that the military needs to overthrow her country's government.

  • They say men think with their dicks, but I thought it was a metaphor!

  • Adam Conover has the smarm of Alton Brown with the deep knowledge of James Corden. Truly the Joe Rogan of the Left. But he has had some good guests on his show lately.

  • Congratulations, you're not an asshole. 🙃

Also apparently it's already been forked 🎉

  • That AI use stunts mental capacity and learning. That handing kids iPads doesn't make them good at computers. Other stuff too probably, but I'll wait for more studies to come out. Your question is basically "Which of your hot takes do you think will be vindicated in the next decade?"

  • No, because nothing happened. Does sound like it was projection though.

  • I ended up doing it, but my hesitation prior to the switch was gaming. I did it anyway though, and now with Proton I don't miss a thing.

Get a couple USB sticks and backup your documents folder. Having backup, aside from being a generally good idea, should make you feel safer to test and experiment.

I do understand the general concern about running your Windows apps, but I'd say just trust yourself and see what you canake work, and what you can find good alternatives for. I'm at a point now where there are Linux apps that I really like but can't get to work quite right on Windows. It's not a one-way thing.

  • Valid list.

  • Well I can think of one short story by Harlan Ellison hahaha.

But, hmm, a show or movie.... Darren Aronofsky and Terrence Malick hit heavy on those themes, though not solely. If you want the unfiltered pain there's Lars von Trier.

So for Aronofsky, The Fountain is about a man trying to deal with his wife's terminal cancer. It has an arguably uplifting ending, though I thought the protagonist was a fool.

For Malick, A Hidden Life is about a man who decides he won't go to war anymore. It could be seen as an affirmation of the human spirit.

For von Trier, Antichrist is about the death of a child. It's the emotional equivalent of jerking of with a cheese grater.

  • At least recommend him one.

  • Bleak.
