  • Yes, if you want an example, look at fetishes. Also if you look through history, you'll find that what people considered attractive varied massively.

But also to your point, the media that we all consume says that this is the kind of person that looks attractive. And so if you ask most people what is attractive, they will tell you the standard Hollywood type.

But I think most people, if they see someone that gives them that happy brain tingle, would go for it even if who they're looking at isn't conventionally attractive.

Don't get me wrong, if you're not conventionally attractive, it does make things harder, but not impossible.

If you need a modern example, I'm a fat computer nerd, and my wife found me on the internet.

  • I feel ya, take some time, then continue the fight to make things better for the next generations.

  • This is just venting? https://lemmy.world/comment/9580103

Then I'm not sure I can tell the difference between venting and someone giving an opinion that they are willing to defend. I'm also not sure how anyone could tell the difference.

  • I sympathize and also I disagree that there's only one curve. Everyone is different about what they like. One person uggo will be someone else's hotty.

Now, if you're not conventionally attractive that is definitely harder because everyone's opinions are skewed.

I also understand that you may feel like just giving up on finding a match. If that's the case, that's you're right. When you really do give up, please stop posting about how it's impossible to find someone. You're being discouraging to others who are still trying. And the only other option is State mandated partners. Trust me no one wants that not even you.

  • Oh you know that's where the engineering effort is going

  • Hahahahahaha...

It's cheaper if we starve to death.

  • If they do it right, you won't even notice or feel like you have no choice to buy something.

They want to know you better than you know yourself. I doubt they would be interested in any information you would provide because it would be useless compared to what they can get.

Most of the phyc research is done by large companies to crack all our brains open so we open our wallets.

You're probably depressed because that is what they want you to be. So you maximize screen time for adds and purchases.

  • Get mad. Slowly diying while depressed and high is what they want you to do. They set up the system for you to suffer like this. It gives them power and money and they don't give two shits about you.

Maybe you can't win. But you can at least be a massive thorn in their side before you go. If you can't take them down, setup others to take them down. Maybe not this generation, but the next.

Don't forget to enjoy your life when you can. Without pain, there is no joy.

Who is "they"? You have to find out for yourself. Start by trying to figure out who is benefiting from your suffering. Keep asking questions. Try to make sense of the world. You're doing good so far.

  • This happens in close source software too. You just don't find out about it until it gets bad enough.

  • It's also a war crime that every Palestinian has a Hamas military installation in their body. Israel knows and is going to solve that problem. Better hope a Hamas military installation doesn't happen to you or Israel will be coming for you. /s

  • It's only because they didn't have the grind set mind set /s

  • Oh yeah, I agree, it is an interesting talking point. But If you have the goal of reducing green house gas emission, is memeing on T Swift the best target for that? Don't get me wrong it is hilarious. I just get really frustrated when people say they are doing it for the environment, when what they are doing is mostly ineffectual and playing into the desires of the major polluters (who are very wealthy).

So in my mind, either a large group of online environmentalist have decided to be less effective at working towards their goal for no reason. Or there is a significate astroturfing thing going on here. Given that oil companies have done this kind of thing multiple times in the past, I think I have a reasonable assumption. I smell bullshit and I am calling it.

  • Na, she is getting this attention because some very powerful people, who benefit from producing a lot of greenhouse gases, would prefer that everyone be mad at T Swift instead of them.

  • Yeah this kind of reeks of "I just found about systemic inequality yesterday and now I plan on single-handedly fixing it tomorrow" energy.

    It's not ideal...

I guess it's better than being totally ignorant.

  • I feel like you are missing the point of OPs post. I think OP is complaining about the price.

  • Yes, I'm not opposed to incremental changes! Also a lot of the EU stuff regulates capitalism because it's problematic and needs to be regulated.

Let me ask you my friend, what happens when a democracy slowly regulates capitalism more and more? What do you think the outcome of that is?

You can love on capitalism as much as you want. In the end it will kill us all or be transformed into something better. You can call it socialism or communism if you want, I don't really care what it is called.

  • Well, if we are pointing out problems, I have a few with capitalism. We seem to have a hard time trying to produce chocolate or clothes without slavery. Healthcare is apparently harder than rocket science. Workers, not only have to put in 40 hours a week, they need to be in unions and strike in order to get paid fairly. No one can figure out how to solve wage theft. And my favorite part is every one racing toward extinction via global warming hoping that someone else will solve that problem.

Just because an economic system is in use doesn't make it the best for a given time period. You could say a lot of great things about feudalism back in the day, but I don't see anyone (with a functional brain) arguing for that.

  • Okay so the only thing of value I got out of your post above was that capitalism isn't bad. A perfectly normal thing for somebody to do when they're not mad is write a bunch of ad homs with one point. But that is besides the point.

About the capitalism thing. I never said it was bad. In fact, I think capitalism has been good for humanity. But we are fast approaching a time where it will do more harm than good.

All I was implying was that capitalism isn't flawless. And the people who think it is are idiots.
