  • That's not typical, right? Few sites I found say average nl commute is 19km. I commute around 13km on bicycle and it takes around 35 minutes mostly because of traffic lights.

  • None of that happens though and cli is not needed for most users. Updates are automatically pulled and installed whenever she restarts. Worst case scenario she knows to press down once during boot to select previous snapshot.

  • My 97yo grandma uses Linux without even being aware what OS she's on. Web sites open the same. Telegram works the same.

Anyone saying Linux isn't user friendly hasn't used it in decades or ever.

Most Windows/macos users wouldn't be able to install those either so that's a non argument.

  • Where do you live?

  • I saw turbine and assumed wind. My bad. Either way, fuck Musk.

  • Ah, makes sense. I saw turbine and assumed wind..

  • Not defending nazi or his platform, but is it really a big deal if green energy source is inefficient?

  • Constantine Matrix ... I do love Keanu, but I don't care for his latest movies much.

  • Ability to pay for anything legal implies accountability. I doubt payment processors are creating these rules because they're afraid of Jesus.

They just did the math and there's probably a ton of disputes/chargebacks on certain content.

Should two consenting adults be able to pay each other for whatever the fuck - absolutely. But dumb pipe only sounds really good until you get scammed.

  • I've got 6 in a random mix of brands (Seagate and WD) 8-16Tb that are all older than that. Running 24/7 storing mostly random shit I download. Pulled one out recently because the USB controller died. Still works in a different enclosure now.

I'd definitely have a different setup for data I actually cared about.

  • Hard drives aren't great for archival in general, but any modern drive should work. Grab multiple brands and make at least two copies. Look for sales. Externals regularly go below $15/tb these days.

  • I've been charging my phones exclusively wirelessly (not counting plugging in cars or emergencies) for about 15 years. From Lumia, to OnePlus to Pixel now. Zero issues.

Even iphones finally invented wireless charging a few years ago and it works very well.

I realize it's not as efficient, but I charge overnight and we're probably talking about $10/year in losses.

  • Default behavior is for psychopaths.

I'm so confused every time I use a new browser.

  • Could you name a few successful boycotts? I did a quick search and recent examples don't seem that successful to me. Amazon is still doing amazingly well and Nestlé is still killing people.

  • A lot of legacy stuff that's really expensive and time consuming to upgrade. If it ain't broken (and protected from the internet), don't fix it.

  • Why make it more complicated for self driving cars? Several companies already have decent AD systems. Realistically more than 100% of cars will be driven with some degree of automation in the next decade.

Just ticket as a percentage of total wealth. Even billionaires can't afford too many $250M tickets.

  • Any crime you can pay your way out of without any other repercussions just punishes poor people. To the wealthy it's just cost of having fun.
