Trump administration insiders are furious over reporting that the U.S. Coast Guard, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, will no longer classify the swastika as a symbol of "hate."

According to the Washington Post, the branch of military service has decided that swastikas and nooses are considered "potentially divisive" but not hateful.

As the news outlet reports, "The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, an emblem of fascism and white supremacy inextricably linked to the murder of millions of Jews and that more than 400,000 U.S. troops who died fighting against in World War II, as a hate symbol, according to a new policy that takes effect next month."

    The report continues:

"Instead, the Coast Guard will classify the Nazi-era insignia as 'potentially divisive' under its new guidelines. The new policy, set to take effect Dec. 15, similarly downgrades the definition of nooses and the Confederate flag, though display of the latter remains banned, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post."

The Post also reports, "Certain historic displays or artwork where the Confederate flag is a minor element are still permissible, according to the policy."

"Though the Coast Guard is not part of the Defense Department, the service has been reworking its policies to align with the Trump administration’s changing tolerances for hazing and harassment within the U.S. military," the report states. "In September Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth directed a review and overhaul of those policies, calling the military’s existing standards 'overly broad' and saying they jeopardize U.S. troops’ combat readiness."

Trump Homeland Security official Tricia McLaughlin rejected the claims made without being specific.

"This is an absolute ludicrous lie and unequivocally false. The @washingtonpost should be embarrassed it published this fake crap," she wrote. Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., shared her post.

  • All their smart lights are tuya, or at least the ones that I have. The esp are swappable but are soldered to the boards and their a pain to open but can be done.

I purchased some of their downlughts to add another project to the pile and to feed my curiosity.

  • I'd dare say the easier method, from memory the p6 should have a charge limit in the stock firmware.

I've not an old Samsung s10+ kicking around with corrupted firmware, should really take a look at it and see if it can be up and running again. Not that I need more cores, ram, cameras or any additions to my equipment but just because.

It fassinates me that consumer hardware, and low power at that goes wasted so often. So many small form factor devices such as phones, with built in ups aren't being leveraged. But I guess that comes down to proprietary binary blobs and developer work on a per device basis.

I might have to investigate what platforms mobile nixos supports and see if it's cheap enough to dabble with.

  • Several minute delay? Have you considered running Frigate for your detections?

  • Meds have curbed lots of my ADHD life issues, I feel that post diagnosis and taking kiddie speed most days has made a massive improvement to my quality of life.

Having motivation to complete some basic life admin tasks or take on and complete projects has been such a massive improvement for me.

Understanding that getting a diagnosis in Australia took me over a year, and the process was costly. I'm sure in other areas of the globe it's a similar process, and it felt to me like it's not streamlined for someone with such a disability but for me the outcome is well worth the battle.

Looking back to who I was then and now, meds have opened so many doors and opportunities for me.

  • That's an interesting way of looking at interactions with people.

The fact that we can be so detached and yet so involved, I don't feel the guilt is justified.

Were not cut of the same cloth as lots of folks, and in order to cope with the sometimes difficult interactions we lead or drop a conversation to cope, letting us cope in our own way. Leaving them blind to what were actually experiencing.

Were trying to fit in and the guilt is on them not us, don't feel guilt for being different.

Its a wild ride, since being diagnosed i've more embraced it than hidden it, but it has opened my eyes to who I am and how awful some people are.

  • 38, great at masking. I work in a highly social enviornment (hospo) and have been for 20 years.

Makes me feel like a sociopath but, people are relatively basic. A few quirky comments or general niceties go a long way for directing interactions the way you want them to transpire.

Its not been without its issues / hardships, lots of socially exhausted days, awkward interactions and one complete breakdown for 6 months. Saying so I'm well ontop of interacting with the humans and knowing my social limits / when I'm going overboard in a conversation but man it's taken me a while.

  • You would think considering the cost, there would be programs for people without the funding with such a disability to get access to medication.

And sure I totally see and understand your point and I'm with you there. But a step in the right direction should not be scoffed at or mocked. Progress in a country like the US even if in a single state is undoubtedly a good thing.

  • I have a Ubiquiti AP along with some Google wifi (pre nest) hubs running OpenWRT all with 2.4 / 5.

And honestly I see no reason to update in the coming years, unless there are some major vulnerabilities around these devices.

I don't need the fastest wireless speeds or latency, if I need either I'll sit at my desktop or have a server handle the downloads via Ethernet.

  • Wife kicked me off our joined Spotify membership (we both agreed to her using student discount for her account) so I've setup plexamp for my albums. I mean technically streaming but self-hosted.

Has android auto, and the in app interface is reasonable.

Its kind of nice, just to play an album you own vs having a neverending list of songs you might enjoy.

Yeah my car is filthy 😇

  • Always about moving quantity. People may grab just one unit at 50% off vs every purchase is required to buy two units minimum.

  • Depends on network load, power is cheapish for me right now but much better than peak. During the day around 11am onwards energy is dirt cheap, and sometimes (rarely) dips into the negatives.

Provider offers wholesale rates plus a flat fee. There are some protections in place to shield consumers from massive bills when the rate jumps to $$/KWh

  • Run a macvlan and give containers their own local IP. Or don't expose the port on the host, and connect via reverse proxy.

  • Yeah have been meaning to pick a few up but it's not been a top priority. Not really a developer more just a user that dabbles too much with a homelab while trying to be privacy & security conscious.

The cost alone is a bit of a hurdle with money going to life / house currently and another purchase of some silly computer thing will trigger her.

  • Same thing as any file full of credentials.

  • I didn't know about the ability to use more than one passkey per platform. Something I'll have to investigate further.
