  • I've been thinking there's possibly a future in which history books (written outside the western sphere) that draw a continuation from nazi Germany to imperial America. As opposed to nazi Germany being the bad guys who were defeated by the allied forces.

Some might say they didn't fold. They were never the good guys. It's been good those of us who have been living within their sphere of influence. They have been a ruthless empire that is stepping up to the next level of brutality.

  • Wasn't this known? long before the election. All these things have been earmarked for privatization. Something about some guy who already kissed Trumps ass so he has dibs on government weather data so he can sell it back to you. I remember hearing about his.

  • Except they have the largest nuclear arsenal and the world biggest navy. They can't be ignored.

  • World leaders have figured out he's functionally a toddler. Starmer and Trudeau took the same approach.

  • Reports out of Tehran, military commanders could not stop laughing for long enough to mount a serious retaliation.

  • I hope those things end up some where people will appreciate them. Knowing the republicans they'll probably sabotage every vehicle out of spite.

  • Why would you post such an obvious and easily verifiably false statement.

  • influencer

Whenever you see this word replace it with "sales people".

They’re enthusiasts, and so the initial wave of press from the Robotaxi release will be gushingly positive as Tesla sales people enthusiastically record the experience

  • Post-national wealth is the thing they're distracting us from. They're more powerful than countries. They've basically bought the worlds superpowers. The axis of power is not nations anymore but collectives of oligarchs. As it stands it's apparently the Russia, China, and America regions with billionaires toying the world like a board game.

  • Then leave them alone to nuke themselves.

  • I only use reddit anymore for the meta. It's like a zoo. Its users are scarcely self-aware. I know this is conceited but whatever.

I think lemmy being a reddit clone is rather ill-fated but at least for now people generally still post like real human beings. There's something strange about how dialog is basically an algorithm. Reddit is reached some sort of maximum where nothing you can possibly say will deviate the flow of comment sections from the pre-defined talking points. It's like they're all stuck in neurotic thought cycles.

There's a video with Trevor Noah and John Stewart where they talk about how social media is a performance. It's not a "town square" or whatever. It's not really honest in good faith dialog.

  • That's just another way of saying "move fast and break things".

  • I had a feeling this post is race bait. Apparently nobody actually read the body anyways and are responding to the title.

  • This is exactly how voat died. There may have been an ounce of legitimacy early on. It veered into blatant far right accounts posting every top post. It's obvious this kind of thing happens on lemmy too. Especially on certain instances. For now at least the federation model appears to be doing its thing.

  • The podcast called Sold a Story talks about how the school systems adopted a curriculum that doesn't teach kids how to read. They are more like mimicking literacy. It gives appearances they they are reading but they aren't comprehending.

  • Thiel funded reddit. He's had his hands in it since 2014.

  • This whole era of AI has certainly pushed the brink to existential crisis territory. I think some are even frightened to entertain the prospect that we may not be all that much better than meat machines who on a basic level do pattern matching drawing from the sum total of individual life experience (aka the dataset).

Higher reasoning is taught to humans. We have the capability. That's why we spend the first quarter of our lives in education. Sometimes not all of us are able.

I'm sure it would certainly make waves if researchers did studies based on whether dumber humans are any different than AI.

  • We used to think some people aren't capable of human intellect. Had a whole science to prove it too.

  • I can't remember where I heard or read this but they pointed out that the technological infrastructure for fascism is already in place.

And it's a terrifying truth. There are who knows how many agencies each one alone with enough personal information on the population to do serious damage. Unfortunately humans react to things. It's not until terrible atrocities occur that the population will require change. Until then we get to watch this slow motion derailing freight train. Some us may inevitably be caught in the path of destruction ourselves.
