  • Ooh, I’m a fan of Aesop Rock and Danny Brown in close proximity 👀 what else you got on there?

  • I’m not sure I’d call it “adhering to a predetermined script”, but yeah, agreeing that capitalism is bad and should be abolished does indeed sound pretty anarchist to me!

  • No, words still have meaning. But context matters, and context can have a bearing on meaning. The bar for what counts as “defending capitalism” is going to look different in a community of anarchists compared to a “change my view” type of community.

  • To be fair, you’re also not in the comments of an anti-pigeon post in an anti-pigeon community

  • Because they just keep recycling the same tired arguments

  • “I have no problems with capitalism” sounds pretty defend-y to me

  • There is someone doing it in this very thread. But yeah, Lemmy is, fortunately, quite left-wing

  • Thank you!

  • Millions of voters wanted it. They don’t realize that the circle of acceptable in-groups only gets smaller. They’re cheering at the cruelty today, but it won’t take long to catch them too.

  • Has Mozilla indicated any openness to taking that approach with Firefox?

  • From an objective outside perspective, you’re right. I need to take care of my own happiness, and my wife has a right to leave a relationship that doesn’t meet her needs. I suppose I need to just keep transitioning at my pace and keep communication with my wife open about how we’re both feeling. I just hope that we can find a way for me to be myself and still have a happy relationship. It’s just hard to imagine losing so close to me that I’ve been with for so long. If there’s anyone I would sacrifice my transition for, it’s her, but I also understand that not being true to myself would be doing her a disservice

  • Thank you 💜 it sounds like you have a wonderful partner! I hope that my wife and I can have the same experience. She really is incredible and my best friend. It’s hard for me to accept right now that I might have to be okay with separating if she just isn’t attracted to femme-me, but you’re right, if there are needs she has that I can’t meet, I can’t deny her that. I hope, though, that no matter what happens, we can stay in each others’ lives in a big way.

  • Thank you 💜 I fortunately have a great individual therapist who does have experience working with other trans and queer clients, but I think you’re right, that a trans-affirming couples therapist is probably a good idea. I know the local LGBTQ resource center has some recommendations, l’ll have to check it out.

I also think you’re right that I shouldn’t prejudge anything. It’s obviously been a tumultuous few months, and I probably need to be more patient with my wife coming to terms with everything. Like I mentioned, she’s autistic, so even smaller changes can be hard for her. It’s just difficult for me, because I really want that reassurance that our relationship will survive (or hopefully thrive), and even if we do get to that place, it’s going to take some time.

  • Prompt “engineering” goes to show that you can stick the word engineer on the end of anything to make it sound official and important. Talking to a chatbot is not engineering of any sort

  • Well, there are many reasons someone could come to dislike cops, but their legacy and ongoing patterns of brutality and racial discrimination both come to mind.

  • Any idea which European countries are good ones for doing this? 👀

  • No problem! And not necessarily, but it’s worth thinking about. Even if you don’t have mental health problems to discuss with them, a therapist can help you get referrals and or write letters for other doctors you might want see

  • Welcome to the sisterhood! :)

I am in a similar place to you (trans fem NB, mid 20s, in the US, egg recently cracked), and I can share what I’ve found helpful so far.

First thing you should do is take a deep breath. Transitioning is a marathon, not a sprint. And you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to!

If HRT isn’t an option right away, there is a lot you can do with clothes and makeup, like trying out skirts, painting your nails, getting your ears pierced, and growing your hair out. Voice training is also something you can do, and I know a lot of people say that the sooner you start, the better, even if it’s just a few minutes of practice a day.

I second reading Whipping Girl, with the caveat that some of the language is outdated. Another book that I liked even more was Yes, You Are Trans Enough by Mia Violet. It’s a really good read!

EDIT: Also, I should have mentioned - if you don’t have one already, getting booked with a gender-affirming therapist is a good idea too
