  • I noticed an initial bump in LLM-generated text when ChatGPT first came out, but I think Wikipedia is starting to get a better handle on counteracting it. Better than a lot of other places on the internet, that’s for sure

  • What were the concerns you saw about Mailbox? I’ve been using it (and addy.io) a while as part of my move away from Proton, and I have no complaints thus far. It works with my email app nicely, which is a big reason I like it over Tuta, although Tuta is pretty nice as well, as long as you don’t mind using their app.

  • It would bar federal funding from going to any hospital or medical facility that provides gender-affirming care, including HRT. Like a Hyde Amendment for trans healthcare. Basically, no medical facility that wants to take Medicaid or Medicare would be able to provide gender-affirming care. Oh, you’ve got an entire hospital? That’s nice, but you have a single endo who prescribes HRT, so no funding at all for you.

  • For real! Moving is so hard. Because you need to find somewhere to live, somewhere to work, and how to move all your possessions, usually with a very small window of time, as you need to keep bringing money in to stay afloat. Not to mention the sheer cost of moving - overlapping rent/mortgage payments, renting a truck, etc. And then there is all the logistical hassle - starting and stopping utilities, updating ID, changing addresses for important accounts.

    And all that is just within the country. Leaving entirely, especially to live and work somewhere else, is even more difficult than all of that! Not to mention, then you’re likely leaving behind all social connections you have, and you may need to learn a new language.

    People who go “if you hate it so much, or you don’t feel safe, just leave” have no idea what they’re talking about

Even if you bought into the idea that America needs to be dominant in the energy sector for the next century, they’re completely ceding that position to China. The future of energy is not in combustion, it’s in renewables. And America seems to have no desire to lead the world on that front

  • Very much agree. If we could snap our fingers and eliminate the military, I would. However, for as long as the military exists, it should be open to anyone. We shouldn’t give those who oppose us any ground uncontested.

    I think it’s similar to women being priests in the Catholic Church. Would I prefer the Catholic Church cease to exist? Absolutely, and we’d be better off without any priests. But in the mean time, it would be a sign of progress if they stopped discriminating against women in that way.
