  • Oh - a new range is on the horizon, I didn’t realize they had convection/airfry drawers though. I assumed I’d have to spring for one of those fancy split oven options to not have to heat the whole thing up. I’ll definitely keep an eye out. Thanks!

  • Yeah - I’ve seen some higher-end “speed oven” versions of the low end “over the range” type I had in mind. At the price they’re asking for the high end ones I’m gonna assume they must work 😅

  • I mean I guess as long as the microwave part is no worse than the (mediocre) one it’s replacing, it’s a net gain.

Sounds like it might be a valid option as long as my oven expectations aren’t to high

  • Yeah - it’s a space and efficiency thing for me. I don’t have the counter space for a dedicated air fryer and I also don’t want to use a whole ass oven in the summer, but a small convection oven would be great. For as little as we use the microwave, I’d probably be fine with a “over the range” option as long as it as the ventilation built in like the microwaves do.

  • Retaliatory asset freezing has been on my mind for a while.

I think I’ve kinda come to the conclusion that unless I start moving gold overseas (which is shockingly impractical) it’s just one of those things that’s futile to worry about, so digital IDs just aren’t moving the needle of concern for me.

After I replied to you I did consider the 5 minutes vs 5 months proposition and from a practical perspective it really depends on whether it’s 5 months with foreknowledge or not. If I had a heads up, there is definitely some mattress stuffing options, that you wouldn’t get with 5 minutes.

All that being said I’m still really not convinced digital IDs is going to cause much difference. I’d have to know more about the particulars of an actual implementation.

  • I dunno man - I don’t think I care if the government steals my money in 5 minutes or 5 months

  • And why do you think they won’t twist the current asset freezing system?

    Digital IDs change nothing

  • You’ve just restated the concern without any explanation of how.

  • Asset freezing happens without digital IDs. I’m not getting the connection.

  • I haven’t used it for any auctions since coming back to it after 20 years, just “buy now”. And yes, you have to be carful you’re not buying from China. I found the same issue with Amazon, particularly when buying less mainstream things.

I’m open to suggestions but in my particular situation, it’s the best option I’ve found.

  • I haven’t bought anything from Amazon since last November and I live in a small city. I’m also not shopping at Target or Walmart which also severely reduces options.

For that weird one-off stuff I’ve been using eBay. I hadn’t used eBay for probably 2 decades and in my mind it was still an online auction house, but a friend convinced me to give it a chance. He sells on eBay and assured me when there is a dispute they always side with the buyer and most things can just be bought outright. And a lot of the stuff in brand new.

I’ve also bought a couple things direct from the manufacturer that I normally would have previously gone to Amazon for. It’s more expensive but not so much so that it bugs me more than giving the money to Bezos would.
