The thermos knows what temperature to keep liquids, because it knows what temperature not to keep liquids. It subtracts the temperature the liquids are at from the temperature they should be at, or the temperature they should be at from the temperature they are at, whichever is greater, in order to obtain the deviation.
It really is, it feels like they do understand what Trek is supposed to be and are trying to course correct back to it from the place that some recent Trek shows have taken things.
