  • Since they went extinct they really were in dire need of resurrection.

  • Weren’t microplastics found in plants already? Take that naturalists!

  • When using a metal spatula carelessly in a teflon coated pan just isn’t hitting hard enough.

  • Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to see that you’re taking some steps now.

But… you hadn’t even installed Signal yourself? So you didn’t even know how many of your contacts are already on there? Wtf dude?

  • “I will delete my WhatsApp on -date- because I can no longer justify using a product made by a company, Meta, that is in such stark contrast with my ethics.

You can reach me via Signal, a messenger that works just like WhatsApp. It is very easy to set up, but I will gladly help you do so.”

What are they going to do? Not talk to you anymore because of a little piece of software that is so easily replaced? If so, is it even worth talking to them?

  • Organisms like viruses, bacteria and fungi don’t care about country borders. The US withdrawing from the WHO sadly just means that the world will be less capable in responding to emerging threats overall.

Edit: Still a good joke though ;)

  • Ah cmon now, stop spreading conspiracy theories. They probably just couldn’t prove citizenship and were deported.

  • Yes, you need internet to use the “smart” features of the TV. No, you don’t need internet to just use the TV. You can connect any device that is supported by the ports on the TV, for example a Raspberry PI with a DOS emulator or for example an Apple TV to replace the “smart” part of the TV.

  • Have you tried getting used to plain water? I did a few years ago and now I don’t have to buy water or maintain a device and buy cylinders constantly.

  • Giving me news about US "actions"…

You do realize that OPs article is about a US “action”? You’ve now been informed and might be able to take action like voting accordingly, writing to your representatives etc.

Or, as per my initial comment, you could’ve ignored US news and would be none the wiser.

Edit: one more thing, you know the US-made/Tesla boycotts happening all over the world? They’d not be happening if everyone ignored US politics.

  • Where did I say we should focus on another country? Why does everything have to be black and white?

There are shades in between ignoring and focusing on you know?

  • I can hear the echoes of people saying “why should I care about US politics?”

This is one example. The biggest problems we face as humanity can only be solved with a global effort.

  • And people can decide for themselves. Just as the author can decide to include/exclude things they deem appropriate.

  • Ok, I agree with that. But it doesn’t work like that for other decentralized solutions either afaik. If you move from one instance in the Fediverse to another you will not retain your username@instance

So what’s the difference for the user?

  • You totally can. Get your own domain and combine it with whichever email provider you like.

  • my body weight in bees. Which now that I've said it out loud, is sort of terrifying

Not sure I understand correctly, did you imagine your body made out of bees? If so and if you like reading sci-fi you might enjoy Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Dogs of War.

  • I appreciate your reply and understand your perspective. I still don’t fully agree, it might be a matter of the point of view from which you look at this issue. But I think in essence we are on the same page.

Thanks for not abandoning the discussion!

  • I’m genuinely curious what you would call this and what distinguishes it from a vulnerability.

Leaving aside responsibility, the system could have been set up in a way that wouldn’t have exposed user data but wasn’t. This is now fixed and user data isn’t exposed via this method any longer. What is the right word for what it was at the moment this flaw was discovered?
