  • Because the defining quality of a Placebo is how much of anything it receives

  • Is it more complicated to achieve than in other e2ee messengers? Yes, thus saying it is complicated is justified.

  • Although it is very much on the Science Fantasy side of things your thoughts remind me of the “The Final Architecture” book series by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Really enjoyed reading the trilogy.

  • I’ve never witnessed someone pouring chemicals into a river. I guess that means no laws are needed in this regard ¯(ツ)

  • I don’t understand. No law prevents anyone from doing what’s forbidden. Are you saying all laws are futile? Otherwise what is different with this law that makes it futile?

Also, we usually can do many things at once or in succession. We can raise prices on sugary food, start programs to inform the public about the impact sugar has on health, make school lunches more healthy etc. Would you complain that it is futile raising prices if it was the first thing proposed or would you say “Good, let’s do this and also the other things.”?

  • When I heard the Tool cover of No Quarter and found out the original was by Led Zeppelin I gave that version a spin too. My disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.

Reason being that I really like the Led Zeppelin vocalist. But his performance on that song is just unbearable to me.

The Tool cover though, absolutely amazing!

  • What happens when an immovable hazard is met by a stoppable hazard.

  • I could put on my tinfoil hat and say if signal is blocked but telegram isn’t, maybe that means that telegram isn’t as secret as they make it out to be.

  • You missed the point while drawing your circular argument.

Take what you said and replace fly with human. Wait here I’ll do it for you:

If a human lacks agency, you would be able to predict its movement given a sufficiently accurate set of information.

If it has agency, you could not.

Now tell me how you will acquire a sufficiently accurate set of information about a human and its environment to test your hypothesis.

  • I don’t understand what you are getting at. You are either saying that you can predict where a fly is going to go when you set it free or you are saying that a fly has internal agency.

  • That said, we contain the ability to observe and react to our surroundings which causes a large and complex web of interactions that aren't trivial to map or anticipate.

That unpredictablity is what we ultimately define as freedom.

How does higher uncertainty of my choices achieving what I strive for raise the perception of freedom of said choice?

  • That’s what I did. Loved all of Elden Ring, it is at the top of my all time favorite games. Did not have the fun with and didn’t want to pour more time into Radahn and said fuck it. It felt bad at first but I’m sure the time and frustration I spared myself is well worth it.

  • Daycare is probably not the only scenario in which this happens but I wonder if at least some of those cases could be prevented if the daycare reached out when an expected drop off didn’t happen.

  • It’s been years since I’ve used their service but back then they were notorious for tricking users into signing up for their premium service with dark patterns and making it very hard to cancel. Which is why I left them and have dissuaded anyone from ever using their services.

  • Hold my briefcase

  • On iOS you can set a bedtime with a flexible wind down reminder. I’m reminded an hour before bedtime that wind down is starting and I’ll know that if I want a good nights sleep I should start my evening routine. Which includes brushing teeth and stuff.

It doesn’t always work but most of the time I’m in bed at least close to schedule.

Helped me tremendously since activating it a few years ago.

Edit: Just read OPs comment, making up for lost sleep later, like on the weekend, doesn’t work afaik.
