  • Or at least feed the dogs plant based and phase out having cat as pets. IIRC it's 20% of all livestock in the US that's killed just for cats and dogs and about 70% of that 20% is for dogs on top of my head. Dog can live fine if not better on a well formulated plant based dog food. Just look at some of the reviews for Purina HA Vegetarian (it's vegan btw) dog food. A lot of dog owners cured the gastro intestinal and lot of other problems their dogs had with it. I'm not affiliated. There are other well formulated plant based foods like AMI successfully used by many dog owners. Just seen a video on "The Dodo" of a dog who was at the verge of being put down because of weight loss till the veterinary got the idea the dog could have a meat allergy and advised said Purina food. The dog is now healthy and thriving again. That diet change on a global scale would take a huge burden off of the environment.

  • Ah sorry, hab leider deine Antwort verpasst.

    • Bei 1:15: "Germany literally has no borders, no border control, nothing [...]"

Meinungsfreiheit hin oder her. Das Toleranz Paradoxon trifft hier eher.

  • The people with the infinite family tree were all white and the stupid people in the future were mostly white too. Not want to neglect your statements about zipcode and whereabouts of your upbringing are more important than your DNA in how your IQ is. But the movie isn't making that statement either, IIRC. It's just saying that the people who could give their kids the "best" start in life, because they already would now how to not raise their kids in self-inflicted immaturity, aren't procreating. But I don't think that this is factual.

  • Yeah I read "It" of course. But I was 16 or so. I often heard about the orgy but I really can't recall it. Maybe it was censored in the localized book or I did not perceive it as that bad as people make it. AFAIK it was after they defeated the spider being in the sewers. King still did substance abuse when he wrote It and surrounding this debacle I often see people accusing him of still doing it though he is clean and dry for decades now.

Yes the scene may have been inappropriate but it certainly wasn't meant to be pedophilia:

"In 2013, Stephen King (through his office manager Marsha DeFillipo) shared on the message board of his official site what the controversial scene in the sewers represents, and begins by explaining that, at the time, he wasn’t thinking of the sexual aspect of it. Instead, he wrote it as the connecting link between childhood and adulthood, as the Losers Club knew they had to be together again, and described it as “another version of the glass tunnel that connects the children’s library and the adult library.” King added that he's aware that, with time, there has been more sensitivity and attention to issues like the underage sex depicted in IT's sewer scene."

    https://screenrant.com/stephen-king-it-beverly-sewer-scene-meaning-explained/

What I find way more disgusting is the lynchmob behaviour of people in this thread who never read anything from King and don't know him in general and them even accusing other users of being pedophiles.

  • That's interesting. I read most of his books and I really can't recall anything in that regard. Between he's famous for being a horror author although he wrote a few non-fiction books. The human psyche and inner monologues of the character along with descriptions of villains and why they became the monsters they are, are recurring topics in his books. Might it be that this is the reason why they involve child abuse? Remember Dutroix? He was abused as child.

Anyways I can't really recall any scenes in his books where he delved more into that topic than appropriate.

Edit: I'm trying not to have idols or parasocial relations and it's been years since I read the last SK book. So my memory may be clouded a bit. Other than the scene from "The Jaunt" (which I haven't read), I haven't found anything after a quick search. If it turns out he's a pedo I won't defend him. But regarding from what I know about him as person from the biographical texts, and stuff he wrote on social media and how meticulously he deconstructed evil personalities in his books, I can't imagine this being anymore than a witchhunt.

  • Ich nutze Unternehmungs-Betriebssystem, an dem Weg.

  • No Donny, these men are nihilists. There's nothing to be afraid of.

  • It works perfectly again and is available in the kwin-scripts store under its old name krohnkite. IIRC it hadn't a btree layout before. Now it does. It's the best tiling solution for KDE. I tried most of them.

  • Yes most tiling solutions on KDE are half-baked even the new built-in (at least the last time I tried) but Krohnkite is really solid. It was forked to Bismuth, then that one got defunct after a major kwin update. But it's back again as Krohnkite (infinite thanks to the maintainers). It's rock solid and even has a B-Tree Layout now. I'm on X11 but the last time I tried it also worked nice with Wayland.

  • Three Germans. Mentioned in the article. One over a month in a detention center with 8 days of solitary confinement.

  • Always those inconvenient facts, right?

  • Would, should, could:

Why didn't they bury it in impermeable bedrock then in this case. It will cost the taxpayer 3.7 billion to evacuate the rusty and leaky containers there. Which will probably start in 2033 and last decades. If they don't get it right the waste will probably leak into groundwater. That was already stated in a report from 1979 but declared as unscientific by managers of the facilitiy. The building time for Olkiluotos Onkalo was 20 years. You can search for other "End Storages" of nuclear waste around the world. Not many of them are even operating now. You can also look up facilities in Arizona making the same mistake as Germany in storing the waste in salt mines. You can also lookup the devastating effects of Uranium mining for the environment (e.g. in Navajo land).

    Here's your baseload argument debunked:

"The beauty of these approaches is that they address one of nuclear power’s biggest weaknesses: the fact that it can only generate electricity in large, all-or-nothing chunks. Many of the above solutions are distributed across the grid, meaning that the simultaneous failure of a few units need not bring down the entire electric grid.".

Yesterday 58% of the energy in Germany came from renewables. It briefly had a day in January when renewables surpassed 100% of its energy demand. Energy is sold between the member states of the EU. Germany regularily imports about 2-5% of its energy per year. Not because they can't generate the baseload via coal or gas but because it's cheaper to buy. Only 0.5% of that imported energy comes from nuclear. The rest is also from renewables.

A bit offtopic but related: Mr. Habeck the previous much scolded economy minister had a big part in the rise of renewables and his further plans would have been to build out hydrogen production via renewables to act as a future CO2 neutral baseload capacity. Now Germany is in the hands of old white men again who want to burn the world. Just yesterday a headline was that the conservatives want to restrict the influence of the buero against monopolies in pursuing suspected cases of price agreements between fossil fuel cooperations.
