A programmer with an interest in transit, making music, and building things of all types.

I have dysgraphia which makes writing difficult for me. I hope you can figure out what I mean despite my issues.

  • I have a class I. It is significantly faster than anyone else on the bike trails around me most of the time. My roadbike will go faster on the downhill sections, but on flat or uphill it is much slower. Because of this it doesn't fit well on the bike trails - I make it work, but only because the trails are not busy and so the rare times I encounter anyone else I hit the brakes and pass much slower.

  • It is never too late, don't give up. The earth without humans is generally slightly carbon negative, and there are cheap things to do that can encourage that - it will take 1000 years to undo things, but we can do it. Step 1 is becoming carbon neutral, and with wind/solar power that is easy for the majority of emitters.

  • Nothing is exposed. There are things I want exposed, but I don't want to keep security patches up to date, even if there is a zero day. I'm looking for someone trustworthy to hire for things that it would be useful to expose, but they are hard to find.

  • That won't work for human reasons: few people will remember to lock the car that way at night-

  • i prefer to navigate without gps. While it is a useful tool, my brain can often find things worth a detour.

  • i last looked into this about 20 years ago. I concluded I could make it work but I don't use wine enough to bother.

  • But again, just because helmets are not useful in one situation does not mean that they are worthless in all. They are very helpful in a subset of situations and should be worn for those situations.

  • Sure, when linux loads are process it follows a standard procedure to see how to run the file. If the file has ELF markers it runs the process via the ELF loader. If the file has #! as the first then it uses a different process to run that script. (I doubt a.out executable format is supported anymore, but that at least used to be an option). There is no reason you cannot hack this process to detect windows executable and then use wine to load/run the application. I'm not sure why nobody has done this, but the basic things have been supported in linux for decades.

  • that is incorrect analisys. Ebikes are typically faster and that is a factor in head injuries. Bike helmets do little in car crashes, but they are very good when you fall.

  • My goal is to gat places. Exercise is a side benefit.

  • The whole goal of those changes is tough love to fix all the problems, so short term problems but in 2 years things improve for the better.

Administrations don't have near as much control over the short term as you seem to think.

  • The only problem is charging locations are often just a bit off the main roads, and there are no signs telling you where they are. If you look you can find them, but they don't advertise like gas stations.

  • I recently drove across rural new Mexico - the type of roads where you are not surprised to go 10 minutes between seeing another car. Even there there was a charger every 50 miles (gas stations were about 40 miles apart) If there are chargers on that route, then they must be everywhere to close enough.

  • The Mustang has been an affordable sports car for a long time. The price is right about where I'd expect a gas one to be (I haven't priced a mustang since I was a kid, so I'm only guessing what the price is based on 30 years inflation).

We need more economy cars that are electric though. I'm not expecting a mustang to be that car.

  • Fast charging is getting close enough. If - like most people - the vast majority of your driving is within 200 miles of home then fast charging is good enough pretty much everywhere that you can do everything. Those rare road trips will be a bit more inconvenient as you have to have to take the chargers you can get in places, but there are enough to make all trips these days.

  • Culture will not allow a man to report being raped - there is a large double standard in play. Nobody will believes you would refuse sex with any female who wants it - even fundamentalists Christians won't believe you while calling the girl a slut. The police are less likely to take you seriously if you do try (and many do not take rape seriously). Even if the second is not true where you live, the first almost certainly is.

As such we don't have good statistics. (We also have reason to believe women typically will not report being raped)

  • The reality is people walk this way. When I'm trying to get someplace I shouldn't have to slow down like that. (this is the same way cars feel about me on 'their' roads)

  • The way people walk on bike pathes is different from roads. Awareness is different. My bike is going a lot faster than their dog running all over without a care
