A programmer with an interest in transit, making music, and building things of all types.

I have dysgraphia which makes writing difficult for me. I hope you can figure out what I mean despite my issues.

  • It is a safe assumption that if you notice engine noise on anything made since 1960 either the muffler has worn out, or someone has replaced it with something loud.

  • The wheel that rotates is a difference though, and so you can't just substitute as the user may need that wheel for something.

  • There might be, but the doctor is prescribing the new one and the old is not substituteable. there may or may not be other differences between the old and new that matter (I don't know about this case, but in some there are and some there are not) Doctors never prescribe A or B - it is always A and if you want B that needs a new prescription. The doctor needs to know what you have as if there is an allergy or other problem they need to deal with it (if you always get B it may be A doesn't work for you and we don't know as you never tried. Or it may be that either would work but you go through withdrawal if you switch)

  • I have needed a new phone every 2 for the last 6 years because my old one physically broke. Battery might be good, but the screen is cracked: new phone. My last phone quit recognizing the SIM, and so new phone it is. In theory I can buy the parts to repair the phone, but in practice either the parts are obsolete and not stocked, or I can get them special order from China if I'm willing to wait weeks and pay half the price of a new phone. Then hope I actually manage to get the phone together again.

I live in the US where we use many weird by world standards frequencies. I've looked into various repairable phones, (fair phone, pine phone), but I quickly realize I often travel in parts of the US where they won't work. Thus I'm stuck with what my carrier offers. (Apple might be more repairable, but apparently more locked down)

  • Roads are a lot more flexible though. Tractors also use roads for example. As to bicycles and pedestrians.

Note that the above is about very rural areas where seeing 4 of the above per hour on any stretch is busy. As you start scaling up density it makes sense to separate uses, and trains quickly become the best option for various reasons.

  • The US (and other European partners) is sending BOTH ATACMS for missile launch sites, and also PATRIOT for targeting incoming missiles. Two different systems for a different purpose and Ukraine is getting both.

  • We know from many sources that North Korea is supplying Russia with missiles. We also know Russia is using missiles on Civilians. Do we really need any second source to connect the two?

  • One side? Both sides are doing this. The details are different, but both sides are being evil here.

  • Because it says you are a second class citizen.

  • If you live near the gulf - close enough for hurricanes to destroy a house you either need to build to withstand hurricanes (an engineering problem - I don't know how feasible it is) at greater cost; or you need to build cheap planning on rebuilding from scratch every few years.

  • I'm not saying give up. There are answers, just not easyones.

  • Not hard to trace down who is seeding a torrent and deal with them.

  • As soon as the armies and governments that buy most of that stuff cares the industry will too. Now money talks end everyone cares about cost more than supply chain so the low cost supply chain wins. Pay more and you can get a different supply chain.

  • The bigger proplem is copyright. Google will fight for 'their' creators if they discover you archiving anything. They don't own copyrights but will tell the court that if the creator wanted their content on peertube they would have put it there.

  • I'm not asking that. I'm asking you to find the good content when it is there and wetch that instead. I do watch youtube when I'm out of interesting things on peertube but peertube gets first obportunity for my eyes.

  • All too often there isn't another road as everything else is blocked, or at least leads to the expressway not in the direction you want to go. This pushes cars to the expressway (which is faster anyway), and away from places where people live. However it means you can't get very far via non-car.

  • There is protection here: he is in a place set aside for cars only. If you are in a car only place don't cry when you are not protected from cars in that area.

The real question is why isn't there are place for bikes that goes the same places. (Note that I didn't look at a map, I just assumed like most places there isn't a reasonable alternative for bikes)

  • There is more cntent than you hake time to watch. Look to peertube and suyport what is there.
