He/Him

  • I agree. First impressions are important. Perhaps there could be some "click here to change timeline" in the UI?

But again, this is mainly an issue due to the small userbase. With a bigger userbase, the memes and politics would not be so prevalent, hopefully. We would have smaller, text-based communities taking some of the attention.

  • That is what subscriptions and the local timeline are for. The "all" should show whatever is getting the most attention.

The issues you are seeing are due to the small userbase. With a bigger userbase, your local timeline would be fuller. With a bigger userbase, you would be able to see plenty of content in non-meme communities and non-politics community.

  • It is possible to increase the userbase without inviting the whole world. Lemmy may have a bigger learning curve than, say, Instagram, but that is fine. Maybe not having people who can't understand how lemmy works is a good thing. There are, however, many many people who would understand how lemmy works that have not yet learned about it or have but are not using it. Those are the people to whom we should cater.

We should still, of course, improve the UI/UX as much as possible. Though I feel like Piefed is better for this. Lemmy devs are not receptive to suggestions, not at all. I tried. If the idea did not come from their heads, they reject it.

  • I could never get used to that sort of app. Be it Twitter, bsky, or even mastodon. If I follow people, my feed gets so much content that I consider spam.

Say, there is a person that is awesome and occasionally posts interesting things. But also posts random spammy stuff, like "just took a shower. I feel so clean!". Why am I wasting my time reading that sort of content?? I think there are 0 people in the world from which I want to read 100% of their content. Maybe very very very few. So, it doesn't make much sense to follow people, and then waste hours scrolling content about which I don't care.

I could follow tags, but they still get so much spam and so I still have to scroll and scroll..

It is just not for me.

  • This. If I had to name 1 show that everyone should watch, it would be this.

  • You should watch season 2 of Andor!!!

  • Fuck the rich, no doubt. But also, what you do DOES matter. And you should be doing more than recycling. Namely, reducing and re-utilizing. You should hate the rich, and corporations, so much that any purchase you make should be absolutely necessary and chosen in a way that reduces environmental impact and increases the (negative) impact to the rich. Wage war on corporations and the rich. Hate them so much that even giving them 1 cent makes you uncomfortable due to going against your principles.

  • Firstly, I'd like to say that the moon does not produce light. It only reflects light, like a mirror.

Secondly, I very much doubt that there are solar panels on earth that can generate energy from the light reflected from the moon. Not to any meaningful value.

  • Specifically, vaccination for herpes zoster. I will be trying to get my parents vaccinated for that. Dunno if they already are.. Is it a "mandatory/suggested" vaccine in the EU? I need to check.

  • What is with number 9?

  • Mullvad has Adblock incorporated into their android app. Maybe that is something you can look into.

Or use their DNS? They have DNS that block ads.

  • I dont think subsonic is recommended anymore. It is closed source now. It has been forked and there are several forks available. Suck as navidrome.

I don't use any of these though, so do your own research!

  • Why is there no section for alternatives to reddit? We should really push more people into the fediverse.

  • Need YouTube playlist link! Please

(Bcuz fuck Spotify. But also fuck Google. But ya.)

  • That cleverkeys keyboard is... suspicious? Only 2 stars? 0 issues. Never heard of it. Seems like such a keyboard would be much more known, no? Do your due diligence before you install it, it is a keyboard, with potential to cause some serious damage.

  • Window lickers? Never heard that term.

  • I disagree. Cars are not fine. First, when people say cars, they are referring to civilian cars, not transportation cars.

Regardless, you are committing a fallacy. "In some cases, cars are helpful, therefore, cars are not our worst idea". A very simple way of showing that your conclusion is false is by just giving an example of having just 2 ideas, 1 of which is obviously worse than the other, even though that worse idea has some pros. Sorry, I know this is pedantic, but I just wanted to point out the fallacy first, in general terms.

But now to your point itself. Say we never invented cars and let's also say that that implies no ambulances (which it does not, we could have ambulances in a sort of public transport, ram ambulances, bike ambulances, etc). The amount of deads that cars cause is orders of magnitude larger than the amount of reads that ambulances save. I don't have data on this, I think everyone agrees with this. So, still, net positive.

So yes, I will repeat. Cars might just have been the worst idea we have ever had.
