  • Yep - best of luck to them! They might want to try giving him large sums of money as well.

  • Thanks for the discussion. Just to restate - I absolutely believe everyone that the protests in which Bernie participated were described as violent. I was not disagreeing with this whatsoever.

You mention having "familiarity with all of this," and I do not. This is the only comment I read from Bernie about the protests.

  • I understand they were accused of being violent. The descriptions I read didn't seem violent though, although they might be inaccurately biased.

I think protesters will always be accused of violence whenever possible. I just don't understand how this makes Bernie's statement inconsistent.

  • If you're not interested in civil discourse, then we can end this discussion now.

I researched his arrest to learn what wasn't said in the images. Are you suggesting that resisting arrest is equivalent to violent rioting?

  • I won't pretend to know much about Bernie's history, but I do have a couple of thoughts with which you may or may not agree.

    1. We should never blindly follow any politician.
    2. Politicians should be expected to change/evolve. It's probably a good idea to consider the delta to understand each politician's trajectory.

Out of curiosity, do you prefer past or present Bernie?

  • I disagree. The online advertising industry needs to shrink, and we should probably break up the monopolies.

    Look at this chart:

Growth of advertising correlates with enshittification.

  • I believe we do not truly have agency but have evolved to think and act as though we do. Since inputs to each choice are likely infinite (probably uncountable as opposed to countable), the lack of agency is difficult to observe.

  • Driving a manual is pretty easy, but it depends on how you handle failure. The learning process requires making a few mistakes while you become familiar with a clutch and shifting gears.

Also, I think it's much easier to learn if you know what the parts are doing. Watch some videos on how it all works and what different RPMs sound like.

  • Well said and thanks for expanding on the topic. It's great to get more information out there and give others extra perspective.

I find Haskell fascinating too - it really changes your expectations of programming languages!

  • I'm not interested in arguing. You're welcome to your opinion as well.

Multiple individuals noted the value of diving into non-GUI server administration, and I wanted to share a tool that could be of interest down the road.

  • 😄 Sometimes it's hard to remember the differential

  • The learning curve might be a little high in some regards, but you may want to try NixOS. There are quite a few services ready to enable and customize for self-hosting, and the design makes updating packages fairly simple.

To be clear, NixOS is not a "simple" solution, but it does work well for self hosting.

  • You're not wrong! I worded that poorly. It should have read:

    especially mostly (all?) church-goers

  • I've never experienced any negative opinions of Canada until the current administration. Instead, everyone I have encountered saw Canadians as remarkably similar to Americans (but much nicer) and held them in high regard.

I've been stunned by the change in some members of the population, especially church-goers.

  • Alpha bidet is where it's at

  • I'm not sure about this. People with money spent a lot to tell everyone that these things are problems. If we spent the same amount of money to say the opposite, opinions would differ.
