  • You know, revolt exists. Matrix is good but it isn't the same experience as discord. Revolt is a pretty good open source copy of discord.

  • Browsers should start enabling deleting every data from any website other than explicitly allowed ones by default.

  • reminds me of 8chan

  • I recommend Fedora. It's user friendly and nice to use.

  • That's just ridiculous

  • It would be great if XMPP were to rise again.

  • yeah. references aren't the same as pointers in c++ but similar, so it's something along those lines.

  • That got me confused with rust references and why the dereference operator even exists as well.

  • Oh lol, my bad. Didn't see that.

  • Apparently lemm.ee has it deployed: next.lemm.ee

edit: though I'll keep using this UI or Photon if it stays like that. It is, at the moment, very ugly.

  • Sure, but I am not sure if promoting that community will help when the current community should allow them.

Anyways, I'll make a comment on the current poll post and edit the sidebar to promote this askusa community.

  • It depends on the poll result.

  • good, keep doing it 👍

  • I use Posteo. Their privacy policy seems to be more sane than the others, with riseup and disroot coming in first and second, but I'd rather not use email providers that present themselves as a "safe" place for activists and journalists.

  • Maybe PeerTube will see better days when Google can't pay for YouTube anymore.

I don't see how I implied a hope for PeerTube to replace YouTube.

I simply said that PeerTube might see better days when Google can't pay for YouTube anymore, as in PeerTube might get some popularity after that.

It challenges even the multi billionaire tech companies to host something like YouTube at similar scale. I don't think anyone that knows how big YouTube actually is would think that.

  • Does anyone want to take over the new AskUSA@discuss.online community to allow for more serious discussions?

  • we'll figure out how to transfer it to you.

There is a native way to transfer communities in Lemmy, but I'm not sure if it works correctly as the last time I tried, it didn't work (It actually locked me out of my community). But that could be because of instance versions being noticeably different.

Anyways, you first need to be the "owner" (the first mod) in the community and get the one you want to transfer ownership to in the mod team. And then you simply right click on a post or comment that person made and click on "Transfer ownership".
