  • Which by the way is a town name that very often gets mispronounced by people who only read it in books.

  • It's Διάδοχοι so rather Dee-AH-Do-(c)hee with accent on A, actually more like thee-AH-do-hee but that might sound a bit weird if you don't have a feel for greek pronounciation. A small tip is that "i" is never pronounced as in "die" in greek but as "ee" (or as in "tin" if short).

Edit: I know modern greek, not ancient. The χ might have been more like a K (as the end of truck) in ancient times but I'm not sure. My suggestion above would be a lot closer to the correct pronunciation though.

Dee-AH-doh-kee like in ancient greek is probably what you want to use. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Well, there's a difference between democrats not having any power because of a coup or because R did their politics so well...I'm not defending this interpretation btw, but you asked.

  • Fair point, but I would argue that if you had that kind of experience on twitter, you're weren't really the target demographic.

Desperate and out of touch, yes, but deliberately fucking up a platform and ruining his "Iron Man" persona? He's too stupid and too invested in what people think of him.

There's a version of this conspiracy I could buy though: the Saudis gave him money and stroked his ego knowing that there was no way he wouldn't fuck the whole thing up. Everyone except him knew how this was going to end. That conspiracy I could get behind.

  • Well, since he's talking specifically to christians, in the context that he wants all christians to vote: he could have meant that he will fix all their concerns during his term -- no more abortions, "christian values" in school, etc -- so that next election, they don't have to worry anymore. Just come out and vote this time, he'll fix America so good that the liberals can't even undo it if they win the next one (but they won't, because everyone will be happy in this new golden age).

  • I don't buy this conspiracy theory at all, 1) twitter is disinformation heaven, which is very useful to authoritarian regimes and 2) Musky would never intentionally do anything to harm his public image, he's a textbook narcissist after all.

  • "I hate that site, I hope someone Musks it up soon"

  • Making it harder for animators and illustrators to make a living outweighs the reality that every woman on earth now has to fear someone making revenge porn with their likeness?

  • the algorithm couldn't make faces at all

And what would be lost? I might be missing something, but what is the benefit of being able to make fake people faces that outweighs the damage it can do to people's lives and the chaos wrecked on society from deepfakes etc?

  • So she should go on Twitter every fucking day and make jokes about how he's too much of a coward to debate her. A narcissist can't handle a bruised ego.

  • What, you don't enjoy a bunch of sleepy whiny junkies self-indulgently wailing through a three chord Bob Dylan cover for 15 minutes? Man, weren't nineties arena rock great.

  • If you could increase the productivity of knowledge-workers 5%, that's worth a trillion

A big if (and where does these numbers come from?), but more importantly, a "more productive" knowledge worker isn't necessarily a good thing if the output is less reliable, interesting or innovative for example. 10 shitty articles instead of 1 quality article is useless if the knowledge is actually worth anything to the end user.

  • Ed Zitron, a tech beat reporter, criticizes a recent paper from Goldman Sachs, calling AI a "grift."

Fittingly, this paragraph is incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't already read the blog post; who is calling AI a grift, Zitron or GS? And is Zitron critical of the GS article (no, he's not)?

Now, if it was your job to actually absorb the information in this blog post, there's really no way around actually reading the thing - at least if you wanna do a good job. Any "productivity boost" would sacrifice quality of output.

  • Seriously? It'll take you a minute to read, if you read slowly.

  • They want to end Edge and bring back Internet Explorer. It'll start over at IE 33 since 33x3=88, which means Heil Hitler in super secret numerology.

  • Well, perhaps that process would be more difficult and resource-intensive in this hypothetical scenario, so it would be much easier and less hassle to just keep the bodies alive?

  • Apps are challenging to preserve, but it's the MMORPGs and online games that are almost impossible since there is no game without active servers and people playing the game. Hardware can be emulated and code preserved, so the apps you're talking about could be preserved IF Apple, Google et al wanted to - which of course probably won't happen, but still.

  • Yeah, I love Return of the Jedi.
