no, you're right, it's not counterintuitive at all. counterintuitive means that the reality of something is not the same as what it appears to be when you first see it; i.e. it's contrary to your intuition. but pretty much anyone would understand (intuitively) that if you don't care about a situation, then it has no negative effect on you if it turns out badly, so not caring reduces your unhappiness
