  • If you are Lebanese its pretty weird a foreign country blew up your sports star and put her in a coma. Like wooooaaaah. Weird shit. Haha. My country is being attacked and even soccer isn't safe.

Get out of your own head.

  • Yud dismissing it makes it seem more plausible in retrospect

  • I paired down a much cruder response initially to just what you read because I thought about it and realized this was the case. I still find it disgusting to use whataboutism to ignore Europe's racism. If your answer to is to shrug off your own country's white supremacism because America is worse that's bullshit. It isn't as enlightened as you think it is.

  • I'm really glad we're doing all that and this is your takeaway because that gives Europeans like yourself every excuse to do nothing. It's okay for me to trip on this rake because somewhere an American is tripping on their rake harder.

  • That kicks ass! I was witness and arguably part or a circular firing squad shooting you for the art you make with Horde but this is undeniably a positive application and a wonderful tool for the 'verse. Thanks for your work.

  • You know full well Drag means the character is a dumbass not the actor who plays the character.

  • They said the artistic output was disposable not the input. Whether that matters is up fot debate.

  • I wholeheartedly agree with you and wish this post had gone better for you but it has to be said your point was obliterated by your obstinate defense of your complimentary AI image. Clearly people do not agree with your stance that your AI, though locally grown, open source, and energy efficient, is not in theory stealing. In my opinion, unfortunately, it sort of is stealing unless you source the input data yourself. I read somewhere in the thread you possibly did source your own data and thats really cool if so. But I think that it just goes to show that at least on Lemmy your receptive audience just... doesn't like AI art in principle. I'll say it universally looks groddy to me and I had the same gut reaction to seeing the art even though I like what it depicts and love the message (and title!).

Another thing is... Know your audience. The premise of this thread already means you were going to be engaging with prickly Marxist-Leninists to begin with... Since they do practice whatabohtism as you stated, they just need a thing to dig into to discredit you, and you sort of gave it to them. Not saying you have to be the perfect flawless diplomat with how you comport yourself online (god knows I'm not) but to an audience who aren't receptive anyway your defense of your practices while not broadly clarifying the source of your training data is just going to lead them to thinking of you as a reactionary in favor of art regurgitation, indicating you are more about your aesthetic than your message. I think you have pirate party politics and I respect the long term vision of a world without constraints on how art is shared and understood, but this specific tool we're discussing requires far more attention than not in order to be wielded ethically. People are gunshy just seeing it, even if theoretically they don't know what you're showing them is a home made original piece with original constituent data.

You can't really wear a big hat on the internet that says ASK ME ABOUT MY ETHICAL OPEN SOURCE AI but perhaps you could have user flair in your nametag. On your blog you could caption your art with a disclaimer and a github link to the resources you use/used to build it.

  • I guess seeing her grandma wasn't as important to her as not telling the truth. How hurtful for her grandma. At least she won't have to greet any more genocide enactors.

  • Why would this be sticking it to a vegan if you are eating a cloned organism with no experience of life? Its not a zero sum game, you can both have some (vegan) pie.

  • Fucking assholes in here. Here's the skinny; we kept slaves as a nation only 150 years ago, not that much time in reality. The children of the slaves even generations later are materially disadvantaged from not only the generations of slavery their ancestors suffered before but the generations of discrimination and poverty they suffered even after they were "freed" by the 14th amendment. Because of this circumstance, smart ass kids have come and gone without being recognized by institutions on the basis of cost, class, and race. This is a move for all the kids the institution knows they would normally pass up and knows that by doing that they rob themselves of possible amazing alumni. They fucking deserve it, and by they I don't mean colleges, I mean students. Mad about how unfair that is? How about yas go back in time and brutally opress your own cracker ancestors to the point of generational poverty and disenfranchisement. Then come back to the future and find even though you're intelligent and have the grades it just doesn't matter and you'll never know why. Then pray for the majority to toss you some reparations after decades of sneering at the very thought.

  • I'm semi convinced everyone clowning on Trump with nicknames is what makes him unstoppable. Call him orange, call his makeup gross, call him poopy pants. He can kill your fucking family with impugnity now. He essentially always could. He does not, and never truly did care about what his enemies on the internet think, we're not threats or even really real to him. His audacity totally eclipsed yours. We only made ourselves feel better with Orange Man Bad. It was pissing me off from the beginning. Everyone thinks its funny Hitler had Jewish blood and one nut now, but we get to laugh about that with the benefit of hindsight. The here and now should be about taking everything deadly fucking seriously. Pithy nicknames were his strongsuit, not ours. Wanna talk semiotics and the "weird" attack vector? Okay, but that one was the first one that stuck in years and it was a criticism levied at the total of the GOP, not just Trump.

  • We're in danger of a domino effect happening across the planet where governments finally have the de facto authorization to scour youth and youth culture off the web. For millions this is the loss of a right to access they had assumed from birth. Any argument that applies to children browsing the web applies to adults, since we recurringly prove we're not better decision makers than children.

In my country the elite are pedophiles who want to marry children and allow them to be employed debt trapping them and then forcing them into a financial corner. Our highest lawman was nearly an actual known child sex trafficker but his appointment would have sparked a World War III like series of disclosures and open blackmailing because there are now too many pedophiles running the government to effecticely threaten each other.

There is a type of common sexual deviancy inspired by eastern cartoons that fetishizes the undeveloped body. It is commonly defended by its connosieurs as valid art from a superior enlightened culture. There is a throughline of normalization of child marriage and relationship forming that is slowly being legitimized and trust me it was already legal in half my country to marry children, but not acceptable.

Meanwhile childrens identities are making them targets in school hallways, bathrooms, and gymnasiums. The ramifications of the social world order bear down on them without their consent or understanding. Fascism splits up children into tribal groups and targettable minorities just the same as adults.

Darkest of all is the future promise of more children disappearing into a black hole. Closed borders where only ICE and men like Matt Gaetz and the late great Epstein have the power to move through unabbated. In Trump's first administration they told us to our faces they lost 1,488 children. 1,488 necessary victims of border policy. They lost more than that, 1,488 if you don't know, is a Nazi dogwhistle referring to the 14 words and then signalling allegience to Adolph Hitler. They told us to our face they threw fifteen hundred children down a well. Where are they now?

Who benefits ultimately from controlling what children see and think? Who benefits from being able to silence them? Who benefits from being able speak for children?

Children's rights and liberties are a flashpoint in our civilizations understanding, worship, and secret contempt for the concept of natural and civil rights. When they're shoved off the net another much more easily targettable adult minority will be next.

  • I'm sorry to tell you this but Israel will keep existing. There's no point in magical thinking. Its existence is guaranteed by our empire. They'll fall one day though, everybody does, even us.

  • I thought modern Chinese were supposed to be getting these benefits for their parents and grandparents making this sacrifice.

  • However, it’s important to emphasise that social science has so far failed to provide definitive answers.

Yeah thats traditionally not the job of the social sciences or science in general.

  • In case you're interested, its actually really easy to just grab this big Git repo of hundreds of Linux related wallpapers from different distros. Roughly half are gorgeous landscapes and you can be assured the photographers all gave explicit permission for their work to be distributed as wallpapers. Check it out!
