  • You could try NextDNS. It won't let you designate access per app, but you can create custom blocklists. Short-term logging makes it easy to see at a glance which domains are being requested, and it doesn't take long to get it all set up so that your apps only contact stuff which is strictly necessary in your view. Also comes with many blocklists to choose from, as well as other useful settings.

  • Because when your incredibly distressed child needs an explanation for the horrors they just saw on their screen, you suddenly feel more willing to accept a much higher level of dire conditions to shield your child from experiencing war.

  • Having just watched the 1950s musical "South Pacific" set in the same arena, but very cheerful, and today being the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, seeing this image now is an interesting juxtaposition.

Come to think of it, used the phrase from the title to inquire after a man's wellbeing just two days ago. He blamed it on his colleagues (who were at the bar with him, and who seemed to understand).

  • Beautiful.

Some archaeologist is going to find this one day. Be fun to include a plaque with a message for them (and for anyone who uses it after you).

  • What's with the article putting "innocent victim" inside inverted commas?

Sure, they may be quoting a witness, but is there need to quote that specifically? Was anyone thinking that a nine year old child shot having dinner with her family is somehow culpable for the violence done to her?

  • Eh, wash & glaze are kinda the same from our perspective as viewers - just differentiates type of solvent used, as determined by binding media.

  • Heavy draperies added to censor the painting seem to follow the same shape on the lower body, and the article mentions Artemesia's delicate glazes under the overpainting.

So though the article doesn't state that she painted this translucent veil, or if it is included in the digital reconstruction to indicate a query researchers were unable to resolve categorically, she included similarly diaphanous fabric in this nude https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b0/Artemisia_Gentileschi_-_Sleeping_Venus.JPG

  • Interesting to see a painting of rural life which veers sharply from the sentimental. Love the dreamy washy way the land has been done as an offset for the harsh experience of the woman & the ox.

  • Mmmmmrrrm. Idk, saw them as a child & though I had not heard of them at the time & therefore had no expectations, not even the most dramatic, high-tech camera footage has come close to those moments.

  • Overheard a lady tonight claiming they were visible "all around, everywhere, just get outside" on the phone to her friend in the centre of Birmingham. Tried to ask her for tips, but she was too distracted by it all & not looking at the sky in any case.

  • Because psyop.

Which isn't to say that there aren't genuine participants; only that it is notable that XR, JustStopOil, InsulateBritain, et al all materialised at the same time, seemingly from nothing, with expensive publicity campaigns, and performing actions guaranteed to be alienating at best.

  • Banging me with my favourite Irish painters tonight, so you are, though this one I feel isn't her strongest.

There's a glorious documentary on Manie Jellet, which you might be able to find on youtube by now. I

  • Have always loved Lavery, but have never seen this one or any like it.

Suspect the nunatuk in the background could be Ben Bulben https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benbulbin.

Lavery mixed in the same circles as Constance Markievicz, who lived in Sligo at a similar distance to the mountain, and who fought for Irish independence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constance_Markievicz

A 1922 Lavery portrait of his wife, Hazel as the embodiment of Ireland, Cathleen Ní Houlihan, was used as the watermark on Irish banknotes until the adoption of the Euro in 2002. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/Portrait_of_Lady_Lavery_as_Kathleen_Ni_Houlihan_.PNG

  • Quite, lol. Nuffink to lose tho'!

  • The article does not suggest that it is.

The guy is appealing to the sympathy of the British government, but also does not suggest it is a British problem, and likely knows he won't even get a response - he just has nothing to lose by asking.

  • Right, because screeching about trans, non-binary and intersex people as if they're to blame for a decade & a half of Tory asset-wrecking deathly malfeasance will totally magic this extra NHS capacity into reality.

(Ok, they didn't mention the latter two, because they never do, but we all know how it goes).

Tbh I think staff on the wards will be able to ignore this, as the demand for care far exceeds availability, but they shouldn't fucking have to.

  • Because Tory cuts mean the money to run these websites has to be found elsewhere.

  • Having intermittent difficulties loading various things from different phone browsers for the past hour. More so on Firefox.

Have yet to try desktop browsers.

  • Can recall being a young teenager and being on the one hand struck that they were suddenly including men as consumers of household products, but at the same time that they were depicting these men as bizarre & wildly incompetent.

It took a further TWO DECADES to see an ad with a normal man using a normal product like a normal person.

Was splendidly unaware of the substantive issues back then, so that I even noticed this as startling seems telling.
