bit by bit...

  • Real question: You yourself call it "the edge," so does it feel sustainable enough that you'd start a family and pass your way of life on to your kids? Is it stable enough that it can handle unplanned expenses? Just my opinion here, but if your lifestyle can't accomodate creating the next generation is it actually better? I'm talking from a position of privilege, with a 9-5 that I enjoy and pays well, which maybe also isn't realistic for the next generation, of course.

  • I finally got a window and I kept that fucker clear all the time (had blinds, didn't use em). I wore a brimmed hat rather than cover up that beautiful sunshine.

  • While your cynicism is well-deserved in the US, Urban Air Mobility is an area of regulatory development. EASA and FAA are both actively working in this area, and VTOL and eVTOL aircraft have their own existing pilot certifications for both manned and remote flights. Lobbying has had very limited success with FAA and EASA, and they remain some of the most heavily regulated organizations.

  • He does differentiate the practices in his description of "agentic coding". He's trying to carve out a space where he thinks he can have both high quality and high volume. I don't know if I agree with it, but he, or whatever wrote that article, does differentiate.

  • You misspelled "capitalism"

  • Just another celebrity talking about stuff they don't really know that much about. Jimmy's witty and all, but his "physics is real and everything else is just stamp collecting"... sigh.

  • "Speed of thought"... hmmm... We can call it "Impulse Driven Development" I'm sure it'll be great.

  • I wanted write super reliable software after finishing school, so I thought I would get my Professional Engineer license (American). Passed my FE exam (thermo was fun), found a PE to work under, but then Software engineering was removed from the licenses list. 🫠 Now I work in safety-certified software, but I'll probably never get to write that "P.E." behind my name.

  • Our ability to rapidly ingest the opinions and experiences of others through language, media, demonstrations, etc. has given us as a species, an incredible advantage, along with some risks you noted.

For an example species following the "learn it for yourself" approach, see the very intelligent but very limited octopus.

  • Everlast - What it's like No particularly graceful person in the song, except maybe the singer himself, but encourages grace and perspective from the listener.

  • Fair enough, but one person's "basic" may be another person's fancy tool/workflow. As far as I know most popular distros either come with a browser or install it from a GUI-based "software store" with pretty minimal effort, and then it "just works" to get on the internet. However, did your distro detect your machine's Wi-Fi card correctly? Maybe... so I concede your point.

  • Stop all the cherry picking, this isn't Reddit. Engage the argument in good faith.

Linux IS easier to install and use than ever before. If you stay within the FOSS ecosystem, the DE does usually work fine for what it's made for.

But people are complaining they can't flawlessly run Windows games in Linux. Come on. Most computer users aren't even gamers.

  • Oh no! You'll arrive 5 minutes later while reducing pedestrian fatalties! How will Murica survive?

  • Click bait worked on me.

  • Holy Shit. And not for a profit. If it were like a single lifetime-effective shot, this would be impossibly good. Still, very cool of this pharma co.

  • "...identifying with our sinful emotions and desires" Don't they also say that's why he was fucking sent to Earth in the first place?

And the US evangelical team has won the gold in mental gymnastics once again.

  • Compromises on principles, not compromises with people.
