  • DAWs. LMMS is only really functional as introductory software, to see if you like the workflow before you graduate to a paid DAW IMO. Maybe when Audacity introduces the requisite features to be considered a DAW it'll be better, but that's at least a decade down the line.

  • I feel like people's perception of what "open world" means has drifted. I see people claim that GTA isn't open world because it has linear progression, or games where the world isn't particularly big aren't open world. Like, they think BOTW defines what "open world" means.

    Do you have a seamless, interconnected world that is the primary place the game takes place? Open world.

    I would bluntly state that Metroidvanias are open world, and also aren't the only open world games that have been around since the NES.

  • For me, music production is my reason for being on Windows. Gaming I could do on Linux, but there's nothing to drum up the interest in in fixing music prod on Linux that there was for gaming.

  • I live with my mom and brother. If I could live on my own I would, but this is better than the alternative for any of us.

    Mostly I wish that we all had our own bedrooms, that I could do anything without either of them noticing, especially leave (I have perception anxiety and I don't like being questioned about what I'm doing if I do something unusual.)

  • More dependent on how much money. $100 is a lot for me in general, so I'll definitely go out of my way. $20... Maybe, depending how much inconvenience and how much the remaining price is. I'll never under any circumstance inconvenience myself over less than $5, because I can't fathom a situation where $5 saves my life. Maybe if my entire family died.

  • I just did a new build with DDR4 because I was panicked about rising costs, and I don't think the Ryzen 7 5800X counts as low end, or at least it didn't when it was new. You're probably right about it being old stock though, and none of this is relevant to laptops.

  • Hardcore Sonic fan here: It's not that Sonic fans are hard to please, it's that it's a fandom that doesn't have as strong a sense of consensus as a lot of other fandoms. There's a few obvious favorites in the series (S3K and SA2 mostly) but even then not to the point where people get to thinking not liking them is objectively wrong (vs., say, Kirby, as someone who likes most of the series but thinks Kirby Super Star is an awful game.) There isn't really one thing that "every" Sonic fan really wants.

    This results in outsider commentary from people who are used to fandoms with strong consensus invoking the Goomba Fallacy all the time.

    Hell, I'll also note that I sometimes see people say that Sonic fans are too easy to please because a lot of us liked something like Frontiers in spite of it's miryad of flaws.
