We (Delft, NL) have underground containers. You drop your trashbag through the hole and there is a sensor that detect when the container is full. At that moment the municipality comes to empty it. I like that I don't have to store my trash in my appartment but can just drop it in the container whenever. But, the place when the containers are can get messy when they are full and neighbours are too lazy to walk the 200m to the next container and place their bag next to it instead, where seagulls rip it open.
The containers are HUGE. Sometimes the fire dept. rescues things like wedding rings from them. Also, there are several different kinds to split kinds of waste - paper, glass, textiles, plastics, residual and maybe some more i never use.
For bigger items or things like chemicals there is also a "milieustraat", where you can drive into and the guys there tell you where to put your stuff.
Still for me this is the best option I can think of.
Most scientific studies have been done on only men, that's why airconditioners always make rooms too cold, because men bodies generally prefer a few degrees less. It's actually an issue.
Dutch, we don't dub our movies (luckily) and prefer easy trading over valueing our own language. My biggest problem is finding an accent that fits me. Should I go for posh British, 'Murican, or Dutch "steenkolen Engels"?
I like melon in my fridge, you cut a portion out, put cling film over the "wound" and it stays good to eat quite nicely.
Grapes could also be an option IMO.
Bananas turn greyish which looks weird but still tastes fine.
But apples from the store have probably been in a fridge for a long time already before coming into the store, because most apples are harvested in autumn and then stored in a fridge, so that works.
Just wanted to add "for me too". Sometimes my app takes a few minutes to load/time out the "subscribed" feed, while the "all" feed works fine and even my notification page has no issues.
Yeah I live in a country where it rains, snows and where people ride bikes to the office in their suits and shiny shoes because they prefer it over being stuck in traffic.
Even the prime minister (now head of NATO) used to ride his bike to work, although that was probably also an image thing ("he looks so normal! What a nice guy").
I don't think bikes are the problem, just one random bike lane is not going to cut it, you need a good (safe, quick, comfortable) route to get from A to B and a bit of time for people to adjust.
Just note that every person that takes the bike means one less car on the road. So proper bike lanes are the solution for traffic jams.
But in the end, if you want to live in a country that looks like a highway, you do you.
I understand this makes you unsure, but I really think this would be a perfectly normal question to him:
"Hey, I really enjoy your company, but I have noticed in the past with other Japanese friends that they sometimes have mistaken a hug for me asking for more. How do you see that?"
Especially with him being an older guy (which generally means a bit less insecure and more mature) I would expect this to be a good start for an honest conversation.
