  • I think a sovereign country should have a say in who they trade with and who they do not.

I am making no prescriptions of what should be, the question is "why does Russia have a shadowfleet", I'm describing the fact that the US's comprehensive sanctions have more teeth because they sanction countries for violating them and are unrelated to international law, hence why such a country requires a shadowfleet to trade with anyone who isn't already sanctioned by the US.

The EU and UK have their own sanctions, but they only reflect the EU's willingness to do business with Russia, not their willingness/ability to cut off anyone else who does business with Russia.

  • to be clear, the secret service cannot prohibit the president from doing anything they really want to do

Was Trump lying when he said the SS wouldn't take him back to the capital on Jan 6?

I could definitely see him lying about that so he doesn't look like he abandoned his supporters during the coup, but I could also see the driver being like "I can't endanger you, mr president" and ignoring his requests.

  • It was Elon, he was very vocal about how Lidar was an expensive crutch and how machine learning would get so much better than human vision back around 2016ish.

  • So they had an issue with the car slamming on the brakes at unexpected times, caused by misidentifying cracks in the road or glare or weird lighting or w/e. The solution was to make the cameras ignore anything they can't recognize at high speeds. This resulted in Teslas plowing into the back of firetrucks.

As the article mentioned, other self-driving cars solved that with lidar, which elon himself is against because he says AI will just get so good and 2d cameras are cheaper.

  • we must acknowledge Hamas role.

Hamas role? They tried to be peaceful during the march of return, they got gassed and shot with snipers.

The only role any Palestinian group can play that won't have Israel making those same criticisms is to stand in a field and commit seppuku.

You criticize Hamas for not using uniforms, while Israel arms civilians and helps them build homes on stolen land between Gaza and their own military bases, you criticize Hamas for fighting near civilians, while the IDF's HQ is literally next to a shopping mall.

The two aren't even comparable, because Palestine doesn't have the benefit of billions of dollars of military equipment and the ability to have a standing army without getting bombed necessary to fight a non-guerilla war, meanwhile Israel chooses to do these things.

There is one single party responsible for starting this conflict, who can end it at any time, that's Israel.

  • Israel is fighting to eradicate the entire Palestinian people, Hamas is fighting to protect the entire Palestinian people, and even groups whose members Hamas murdered to obtain power are supporting them at this point in time. When you adopt the zionist framing that Israel is justified in fighting Hamas because they're just so evil, you are carrying water for Israel.

If you're old enough to remember Iraq, they did the same shit; the right wanted to murder as many Muslims as possible, the tepid liberals tried to say they only opposed Saddam and the Baathists and terrorists as if the two positions weren't equivalent in practice.

  • They'd take the service tunnel.

  • no-one commenting was able to take that statement at face value

People can smell the tepid liberalism and pretty reliably guess what else you believe because they've seen it before. The modlog indicates they were right. You are exactly the person they're talking about when they mock someone bothsidesing genocide.

  • Are they going to bike through the chunnel? If not, why?

  • Wait billionaires? I've been using Saddam Hussein all this time.

  • The Khmer Rouge was never socialist, they were some weird feudal ideology, hence why the CIA supported them and the US recognized them as the legitimate government of Cambodia for like 30 years after Vietnam liberated them and put an actual socialist government in power.

Russia hasn't been socialist since 1992; Putin's Russia is what happens when you overthrow a democratic state run by the workers for the workers with a vibrant, multiparty capitalist "democracy".

“Socialism with Chinese characteristics” is more democratic than the US; the average Chinese person feels they have far greater influence on the government than the average American. They tend to be confused why Americans hate and fear the police and why we aren't able to vote for politicians who will fix the problem.

There's also Cuba, who had a referendum on a new constitution a few years ago. After years of debate at the community level, they came up with a final draft that 92% of Cubans voted yes on. Could you imagine if we had that level of influence over our own government?

See the thing you're missing is that the communist parties of these countries themselves democratic; they're typically structured such that every member above the rank-and-file is elected, with instant recall and "give us a better candidate" options.

  • Yup. It's actually crazy how anticommunist propaganda creates so many people who are so confidently wrong about things that are so easy to investigate.
