My Hispanic in-laws had to go to the states to take care of some elderly family, and they said the Spanish translations of what he's saying make him sound much smarter than what he's actually saying in English. Like they change the words, use proper grammar and the tone of voice doesn't come through the translator.
Not saying this is an excuse in any way, but I thought that was interesting.
Not really, he was already insanely popular before this. Just won a third majority a week ago, which is unheard of in Ontario politics. It's more that he knows how to connect with people and the electorate is very gullible / willing to turn a blind eye.
With all this recent goodwill he'll probably end up being our prime minister at some point shudder
