this is self-hosting local-first apps. There's some local-first manifesto somewhere... one of their greatest 'backend' developments were CRDTs. The idea, is that the app can be turned off, synchronization can be interrupted and resumed, and so on. Those CRDTs allow people to use a text editor even when the client(s) are disconnected from the server. Of course, depending on how much your version differs, the merge conflict of diverging versions will be easier to solve...

I'm from Argentina, and we're indeed the best culture/ people/ country :)
ps. in case you haven't met us before, we are proud and boast a lot.
I understand it. I have emigrated like your sister, only that my relationship with money is not the standard. Given the terrible inflation, I was used to live without any savings... I was making 500 USD per month, and spending everything. Some (poorer) friends perhaps only liked me because of that. I think it's not like I was buying their love or anything.. just didn't mind. Tried to be quite stoic/ anarchist about it. But then, that's me.
The standard (capitalist) way to go about money is that it's yours as your soul. It's an essence. You don't share. Unless when you do a gift (e.g. birthdays)... And, even couples split tabs. Also, the standard (patriarchal) way about money is that Males pay. So your brother in law is just spitting the misery cassette.
We (commentators) can blame all we want on this people. It won't make OP feel any better.
OP: I think that a difficult talk with your sister and/or brother in law is due. Perhaps even a letter (you can also ask someone else to proofread/ help). Tell them how you feel... That way, they'll know why you are not visiting so often. If they are really shitty about it and get mad or anything else other than comprehend, then that's onto them.
PS. Do they have kids? I am an uncle, and my niece is in another country. But thankfully, since I emigrated, I have a not-so-dissimilar salary to my brother so I can plan holidays together... I'm actually looking forward to that. It will be our first.
- The average age seems to be much higher. I joined when I was 16 and feel quite young unlike on other social media.
Enjoy. Less echo bubbles. This goes in both directions, but mainly I value that younger people are able to be part of "mature conversations". Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to underestimate your worldview or anything. It's just that I'm remembering when I was around your age, the Internet was in a raw form, and it felt much like this. I was amazed to be able to talk with other adults and learn about their tastes on say books or movies when I joined some theme specific chat channel (via protocol IRC). At some point this changed drastically (e.g. Facebook connecting people from real life/ schools).. and I think nowadays TikTok, Insta, and for the most part, even YouTube are just centered around being young, pretty... very much like mainstream TV.
since we're stretching the concepts, how about being inhuman for failing an actual captcha? :P
Plus, black holes may do contain universes. This year there was some evidence pointing that our universe is actually trapped inside one... ref: https://futurism.com/universe-trapped-inside-black-hole
Ah, I saw this term in the past. Never understood, I could barely see the relationship to US elections. And, I'm a complete alien to the sophisticated methods billionaires use to sustain their US dictatorship, but it seems to me that this only works because of some "given" stuff like having only 2 parties, and having electorates... Disclaimer: I don't want to bother that much into understanding this, like going through lengthy articles on the web. But will definitively read your answers (thanks!)
TIL some people eat the skin... I even skip eating chicken's skin :P
Ha! You got me there. I was just about to complain that none mentioned slaves, then saw the comment that did mention them (together with aliens) which is (imho) even worst than ignoring their suffering... but here you are, making my day by reminding me that those slaves had a "fair" (/s) pay for their suffering-work :P
Is that a dragon larvae? Do you know how long does it take to fully metamorphosize into actual movie-like fancy dragons?
Arriving to Galapagos islands, in just 2-3 blocks that we walked we got to see so much life! Not the giant tortoises though. But lizards, birds, and even some underwater sea life. A local fishermen was emptying his net, taking out some giant lobsters. It was the first time I saw these animals, apparently the usual are rather small in comparison and taste better, but in the ocean they can grow A LOT. These were easily the size of a shepherd's dog..
PS. Same trip, another experience(s) were snorkeling or diving :) if you love nature, I recommend going there..
The Russians have once again used ballistic missiles from North Korea. We are also tracking evidence that Russian-Iranian drone technologies have spread to North Korea. This is extremely dangerous both for Europe and for East and Southeast Asia. The longer this war continues on our territory, the more warfare technologies evolve, and the greater the threat will be to everyone. This must be addressed now – not when thousands of upgraded “Shahed” drones and ballistic missiles begin to threaten Seoul and Tokyo.
Zelenskiy.
Mind at least providing a link for your pretty strong claim about Tor?
I don't have one. Thanks for asking, you made me actually reconsider the truthfulness of my own statement... I was just parroting back what I heard many times, years ago, among the people that attended a hacklab from the city I was living in back then.
Same goes with the 'tip' that said that Tor was initially funded by the US Military (which apparently is true, but then the project turn out to be independent.) These two "facts" were presented, and parroted back and forth in that space a lot.
It would be great to have real analysis knowing which data centers or actors have the biggest control of exit nodes. If there's really a way to de-anonimyze any traffic from there.
PS. Since we are on the topic, another concern regarding Tor network is the possibility of correlation attacks. It always strikes me how ISP stops providing connection at 'random' if you were a frequent user. Pretty sure there's legal forces behind it... but that's my paranoia. Now those minutes or hours offline sprinkled here and there to my router were a fact. Anyway, the dark web is really full of a lot sick places. I'd rather just stay away from it entirely and use a VPN for my privacy when searching media and stuff. That's a lesson I learned.
I hate it when I don't know an acronym, but this one is particularly hurtful to my brain since everyone is saying "yeah, that link to the FSB was obvious glad someone demonstrated it." So... I will just assume FSB=KGB and be done.
Anyway, most of our privacy "war fronts" are honeypots in one way or another. Take for example Tor network (high number of exit nodes are controlled). Except those apps or protocols that are truly decentralized (e.g. OMEMO in XMPP), these are good. But then again, they lag behind to our standards of "normal" Internet that connects us to the world, outside of our tiny circles of nerds.
Now, the thing with honeypots, is that they are there to catch some specific type of fly. If you were to use their network to take advantage of the features for anything that the "predator" behind doesn't care, you're fine. So, I will keep using Telegram for the memes and piracy channels...
From an OPSec perspective this is important news nonetheless and I will keep it in mind.
Yes, I think the problem description fits for moving from static website to having a database and a web service ( with or without javascript, could be just forms, check htmx.org ). For example, if you know Python you could go and check Django. But there are many other ORMs, all aiming to make working with databases easier. Btw, I am not expanding the ORM acronym because it would only add noise. OP should look into that, and understand why these 'frameworks' are called like that... Good luck!
It saddens me that people are just looking at the 'overview' (2-3 reports by 1-2 users, here at YTPB, all in a few days) instead of doing their own research. This announcement right here, includes a disingenuous 'tldr' that seems to now be pointing fingers to the instance admins on feddit.org (like, extending the accusations that fell upon c/europe moderation team).
followed the original community (!europe@feddit.org now has a fork under this instance), and I couldn't say they're zionists, nazis or anti-semites. Those who are doing it, stretching these concepts, do it with an agenda (either theirs or 'given')...
not if you trained a lot of swordsmanship, like this guy over here
